Agreed Nighthawk. I went to that thread and at first couldn't see what the problem was and then BOOM went the dynamite. It seems like there was one member (who I won't name) who took it upon himself to be hateful and belittling to a degree that I honestly have never seen on this site before. I sent a PM to the OP apologizing for the horrid behavior and letting him know that most of us are of a kinder more welcoming sort. We are all very different people with one thing firmly in common...KILTS. For whatever reason, we love 'em. Our differences can be discussed but to hate on each other because we disagree is unacceptable. Good on ya for calling it out when it reaches that point. Sometimes we need a thick skin but sometimes we need to smack somebody (metaphorically) for being a jerk.

If this post makes little to no sense, I apologize. I have been ill and the room is still spinning a bit. Time to take my Nyquil and talk to the little gnomes that live behind my ears.

This is a great shame. A new member made a perfectly innocent inquiry – on his son’s behalf, please note – and got sensible answers from several folk.
But one troublemaker decided to stir.
This is not the X Marks way.
I am a meat eater and a heterosexual monogamist.
But I have no quarrel with vegetarians and vegans (as long as they don’t tell me that I am evil for eating meat!) or with people of other sexual persuasions (but they must not start advocating a hedonist lifestyle on this forum).
There is no reason whatever for the provocative remarks about mutton.
I am not sure who gets to vote in these matters, but I would propose that this member be suspended for a while.
On a lighter note, my diet is meat and vegetables – unlike some South Africans who believe that a balanced meal is a braaivleis (barbecue) with boerewors (sausage), chops and chicken.

(I understand there are some Americans who are like that, too – insert your own list of preferences.)

I hope we have not scared Chris away.

I really do believe that the point has been made. If someone had made cracks like that to me or another person who'd been around a while, it wouldn't really have amounted to very much. The fact that it was a new guy did make it a bit more irritating.

But, quite frankly, becoming exteremly insensed at the intollerance of others and piling on him begins to border on . . . well, intollerance. You know, we will not tolerate people who do not tolerate people like we do can become the same thing as the original offense.

Come on, guys, beating a dead horse will not make it run. It's very possible we've run off two people now.

Agreed. Give it a rest, already. We should have given the new member a warmer welcome, but anyone who thought the level of commentary/banter/ribbing in that thread was abusive or "over the top" has obviously not spent any time in an army barracks, aboard ship, in an assembly line, a Post Office station, etc., etc....

It matters not one bit what one's experiences may have been in the past, a post with a picture of a crying baby as a response to someone taking issue with a member's comments is downright insulting and sure seemed to be meant as such. I am as sarcastic and headstrong as the next and am VERY hard to offend but THAT was too far by anyone's standards and that should be that.

You are right, the matter HAS run it's course but to defend THAT kind of action is astonishing to me.
