I know what your saying. I am getting married in Ireland next year. My wife is taking my last name and I'm wearing her county tartan, Longford. Now, I am from the U.S. born and bred, been to Ireland several times, but never to Longford and my family ties are to Dublin and Laois.
You live there and therefore, if you like it, wear it. I think the United States tartans are silly all red white and blue, not much creativity there, and there is an Ohio tartan, but again, red white and blue. I'm a proud U.S. citizen and member of her armed forces, but there is only so much of the "r","w" and "b" I can take.
