    Re: Missing Thread

    Sir,

The Sgain Dubh thread that you started has resulted in more complaints and reports than all but one other that the Moderators have received in a long time.

Due to the nature of some of the posts the thread needed to be moved off the open forum. Your thread was moved to our holding area in the Moderator section of the forum and is being held pending our deliberations on possible rules violation.

You should be receiving a notification of the moving of your thread, via PM, very soon from one of our Moderators.

Who are these folks who troll through the Forum, seeking out threads they can complain about and/or report? Lordy, that's a bit sad....

Oh No. I had a bet with myself how long it would be before someone posted the thin-skinned whiner thing again.

I'm an optimist, I lost the bet.

Actually, we see very few members who do that. If you asked me directly to give you the names of the people who usually report threads, I couldn't. There really aren't people who go around scouring through the posts looking for things to report.

When you have a membership base of thousands, with a few hundred visiting each day, it's inevitable that rule infractions get spotted. To be honest, I'm actually pleased that so many of the members have taken the time and effort to read the rules and guiding principles and care enough to let us know when something is amiss. It makes it more pleasant for everyone.

Well, in the 7+ years I've been a member, I've never reported any post or thread - and could never see myself doing so. When someone posts something stupid or out-of-bounds (as I myself have done!), the membership generally steps in and chastises the offending oaf - within the thread - and debates usually then proceed in an adult manner. When they don't, I'm then very understanding of the mods stepping in and shutting things down - especially if an OP requests same.

It's the "anticipation" of threads going south, and prematurely canning them, that bothers me - plus the (deny it all you like!) hyper-sensitivity of some members. "Reporters" should sometimes be gently told they're out of line. Perhaps they are....

Sgians dubh brought up in a kilt forum? The horror! Actually, that thread disappeared so fast I never even got to read the "offensive" content.

(Sorry to be so troublesome! If I didn't love this Forum so much, I wouldn't bother.)

Brian, that is the whole point. The offensive content had NOTHING to do with sgians dubh.

Well not that it matters or not; but I did not report the thread. If you can believe it a thread on if a person can wear a sgian dubh in Scotland turned into the rights of people to own sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate using devices.

Ah, now I understand what I missed! The "Devices Which Cannot Be Named" were in play. It's all clear, now....
