Re: Yay, a Snowstorm!
But snow - in October - isn't that rather unusual even for these interesting times?
Of course that all depends on where you live. Been here since '95 and I can remember going Trick or Treating with the then munchkin-sized daughter, in shirt sleeves one year, and snow on the ground the next.
I am very surprised that we didn't get any snow here. Hard driving rain, major wind gusting up to 60kph, but no snow.

* That's a weird sounding story, piperdbh, and I'm not going to read too much into it. *
I grow rosemary, of course, and I used to bring over large branches of rosemary for my friends bonfires. The whole neighborhood would smell like rosemary.
The citrus will scent up a kitchen, too.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

We had this same "remember when" discussion among the family. We can remember being cold and bundled up on Halloween. But none can remember traversing snow piles in order to go Trick or Treat. So this early (and sizeable) snow is unusual. Fortunately, much has melted and roads self-cleared in most of central Pennsylvania. Now, if only the electricity can be restored to everyone.... That will take days.

Well, this isn't so much as a remember when story as it is recent history. The daughter is only 15 this year. It was more of an illustration of life in Nova Scotia. Winters here are like Forrest Gump chocolates and were quite a surprise to this snow deprived southern Ontario girl....

Re: Yay, a Snowstorm!
My back hurts from shoveling and hefting our snow blower. We got 18 inches. We did not lose our electricity, however. Lots of people did. It is amazing to see big wads of snow in the tree crotches. The leaves were heavy with snow this morning. Later looking colorful and alive against the white background. Really beautiful.

Re: Yay, a Snowstorm!
I remember feeling distinctly deprived when the entire country was knee deep in snow last year, and we didn't get any.
My sister didn't believe me when I called her to see how they were coping and I said we had not even had a frost.
The news on TV last night said 'record breaking' falls of snow in the US though, and millions without power, not good. Hopefully normality can be restored quickly.

I'm 56, and can recall quite a few snowy Halloweens here in Upstate New York over the years, the kids wearing heavy coats over their costumes for trick-or-treating.

The cable service weny out for about two hours on Saturday. No computers, No email, No tv. The only thing left was to have a conversation with my wife. How old fashioned.

Dang, 18 inches of snow out east!
Metro Chicago was rainy, today and a gob of leaves coming down in the "brisk breeze."
