For Better or for Worse
I was flipping through the channels last night, and found a show on TLC called For Better or For Worse. The premise is that the bride and groom hand over control to a group of family and friends that are given $5000 and 1 week to plan the couples wedding.
I have seen this show before, and have always thought why no kilts. Well, last night the groom and the groomsman were all in Sportkilts and highland shirts. There were a few good comments by the groomsmen:
"it's not a skirt, it's a kilt..."
" I 've never felt as manly as I do right now.."
As well as the typical ignorant questions from the female host.
It was nice to see that kilts got some attention.
My only complaint is not with the show, but rather with the kilts. Why do some companies insist on putting big bright logos on their kilts. I think this makes the kilts look cheap, and I would never order a kilt from one of these companies for that reason. This is just my opinion, but I don't like being forced to advertise for someone else. If you have a quality product and stand by your work, I will spread the word for your company as often as I can (ask Bear). Even if you remove the logo you will probably still have some indication that it was there.

I couldn't agree more Colin. Being forced into being a walking bilboard would put me off buying a product. Well I lie, I have t-shirts and a motorcycle jacket with logos, but that's about it. I would never ever buy a Kilt with a logo on it. I know that quality work gets its own attention. People are always asking where I got my Kilts made and I think that is better than just having a sign telling them where. The reason being the people asking will now get a personnal chat about the product. Not that I am a sales person at all I just like to give Bear more work. Got to keep him busy so it takes longer and longer to get a Kilts made.

I even have a problem with embroided emblems on kilts, and I refer particularly to the welsh tartan centre kilt which sport either a dragon or st davids cross.
If I want to adorn the kilt with something I can do it with a removable/interchangeable kilt pin. Or wear a rugby or t shirt.

I understand everyones argument, but I dont have a problem with it. If you dont like a patch it can be removed. What about the utilikilts logo on the back pocket?
I know USA Kilts puts their logo on some of their kilts but I dont think it makes them look cheap.
That is just my opinion though. I think when I get my USA Victory Kilt I am going to have my Highland Tide logo embroidered on it and maybe something smart like "Custom Made for Hank Hanna by USAKilts."
Maybe...

I, too was just voicing an opinion. I don't mind the Utilikilts logo on the back poctet, and I don't mind the USA kilts logo on the back of their victory kilts. Mind you those are both comtemporay kilts in non-tartan fabric. Bear in mind I wasn't picking on any one particular company, but rather was speaking in general. I like simply things. A tartan kilt has enough going on already without the big bright logo thrown in for good measure.
Mind you I also can't stand highland shirts. MAybe the logo shirt combo was what really turned me off of the whole thing.

Ever wonder WHY modern sports shoes have a GIGANTIG tongue on them??
So the company has a highly visible place to put the logo.
Is this REALLY something you want to see happen with kilts????

I perfer clothes with no logo on them, because I don't want to be judged by the brand of the clothes that I wear. Besides, I am not in High school any more.
Then Again, for every person who is unwilling to be a walking billboard, there is probably one person who is willing.

I agree brand name judging is very childish and has gotten so out of hand in our school systems these days. Most of us are no longer in school so we don't have to worry about what others are thinking about us. For the guys that are still school goers what is your take on all this?
