Working in a kilt

When I am working the phone or doing interview, I often wear my kilt. Depends on my client, I have worn my kilt to do seminars.

what has been the reaction at seminars? do you feel your credibility is enhanced - or hindered by being seen in a kilt?

I wore a kilt today at work for the first time.
I'm a taxi driver. I was feeling very uncomfortable in my nuthuggers and long pants, and always adjusting mysef, so I thought F@(K it! so I went home and put on my get shirty campbell, ok for kickin about in.
not many people seemed to notice, they usually sit in the back.at the office the dispatcher put her hand up the back of my kilt and shouted "WHOO HOO"
the girl on the phones said I'd better not be wearing anything under my kilt as thats what you're spozed to do. the lady at the gas station said "is it a special day", I said "no it's just more comfortable".
but on the way out of the gas station, I thought ,is'nt every day in a kilt a special day.
anyway, I'll have to see if management say anything, or people at the local schools say anything about it,(as we pick up school kids).if I get too much hastle I'll not wear it again.
don't think I'll wear it every day, just when I feel like it.

I just made a custom "Carpenter's Kilt" for a guy in PA. Basically a khaki kilt with the tool belt pockets and hooks attached. All pockets have a saddle leather flap to keep things inside. Not bad for a kilt that I'll never mass-produce!

I just had an email from Andrew, who is wearing his kilt to work for the first time (Canadian Coast Guard). He couldn't have picked a better day to do it, as it is Tartan Day in Canada and the US.

Here is a bit of the email:

Hey there Colin just a little hello to let you know that I am wearing my Kilt today. Man I love wearing these things, they are so comfortable. I think I will wear it again this trip. The crew really loves the Kilt and the Captain thinks it should be part of the uniform. COOL!!! Anyway I am going to do a bunch of poser pictures this afternoon so I will be able to put a few in the web when I get home.

I'll never be able to wear my kilt for work, but I did think of 'setting up' a photograph of what a kilted cop would look like!!

Obviously the upper part of the uniform would have to be standard - white shirt, navy epaulettes with silver ID numbers, black tie, black fleece with chequered stripe across the chest and police badge.

But then what - black kilt with black hose/flashes and my Magnum boots? I'm thinking my utility belt would wreck the kilt. Would I wear a sporran? Flat cap or helmet?

Might give it a go sometime. Just for a lark, you understand.

what about a black kilt with a chequered stripe down the sides or on the front apron instead of a fringe.
you will have to wear the bobbys helmet with the blue flashing light on it that goes "ner ner ner ner"

As a professional Chef, there are certain health regulations that prohibit the Kilt in the kitchen. Our local county health dept. inspector would have a stroke! (although it is OK for females...) However, if I could, I would! Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

Al. I took this in December 2001. When someone else saw it, they suggested that (with a shorter haircut and a uniform cap) I could be taken for an officer of the NYPD .............. in an ideal world!
