Respect for the Military

I have just read an old post on this site, and I was REALLY shocked by the insults that were thrown about talking about a fine Corps that I had the honour of serving 19 years in.

I have spent over thirty one years serving in some Army or another. I have nothing but respect for active duty or retired servicemen from whatever arm of whatever army, in what ever capacity or rank, in what ever country and for whatever reasons. I simply ask for the same respect in return.

I left this Elite Corps, after nineteen years service, as a company sergent major (equivalent to a WO2 in the British Army). I had the honour to serve in this corps and alongside as finer bunch of men as you could wish to serve alongside.

I decided not to contact Steve (the owner of XMarks), nor the MOD squad and I also decided not to PM the offenders about this matter as this thread was an old thread, now closed, but still openly available for anyone to read these insults but I just couldn't sit here and do nothing.

So I'm putting this out here. Let slepping dogs lie. Inter service banter is OK, but don't go overboard. Don't insult anybody. You never know who is out there.

Come on, people. We kilties are bigger and better than that, aren't we?

Sorry, Rant Over. It was probably the closeness of Remembrance Day, thinking about fallen comrades, making me over react. Back to your normal program.

Both my grandfathers served in the Army and I have lots of friends serving now. You'll never hear or see me insult a soldier. Banter? Yeah, I'm sarcastic by nature. But insult? Never.

I don't think a little respect is too much to ask or to give, no matter one's personal opinions on current or past conflicts, politics, or policy.

My father served as an aircraft mechanic in the Royal Air Force from 1940 to 1946. You will never hear me say a word against those who give military service. I will be out on Remembrance Sunday paying my respects.

Long, long line of military service in my family, both on the maternal and paternal sides. The first big disappointment of my "almost adult" life was being rejected for NROTC and the Naval Academy on medical grounds.

I agree completely. And to turn that around, my personal politics do not mean that I cannot support the armed forces themselves.
