The first time I ever encountered the phenomenon was about 20 years ago, at a friend's birthday party. Now, this particular gal had two VERY distinct groups of friends -- computer nerds, and outlaw bikers (I won't call them out by name, but they are a pretty well-known 1% MC)...
Anyway, BOTH groups of friends came to the party IN FORCE, and it was one of the wildest affairs I'd ever attended. Really fun, and much to my shock and amazement, the nerds and bikers seemed to MIX and MINGLE with each other as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
Puzzles me to this day, truth be told.
I've come across that too, CDNSushi.

I just joined over here, nice to see a couple people I know. Not only do I know Ripcode from the Kilted Trooper Brigade, I know Hydra (the girl with Rip), and even the zombie girl behind her is a friend of mine.
I was at Dragoncon, and I was kilted almost every evening, but I did not consider it a costume. Rather, kilt wearing has become fairly popular at sci-fi/ fantasy conventions in the last few years, probably because of the rather open mindedness of the "unusual" by the people that frequent those cons.

I Like the "costume" kids. Most of the Utilikilts on ebay come from them. Worn one or twice then they outgrow them or need cash for the next toy. About a third of my "like new" Utilikilts are from ebay. Makes me wonder about the parents thou - letting their kids blow that kind of mom and pops money on a "costume" item .
