RESPECT. Oh, yeah.
I might add that respect for the men and women in the armed forces does not mean that I automatically agree with the reason that politicians deploy them, eh?
I had a similar experience when I was applying to join the UK's Territorial Army (52nd Lowland Volunteers, KOSB Coy.) with a view to becoming a candidate for a commission in my mid 20's. I subsequently found out I have Marfan's syndrome, and it was always going to be a non-starter. I also come from a military family (on my father's side).
I too respect those who serve in our Armed Forces, despite any misgivings I may have over particular conflicts the politicians choose to commit them too. They cannot pick and choose, and just get on and do the best job asked of them.

Re: Respect for the Military
I have engaged in friendly banter with friends who served in other branches of the Armed Services but never out and out insults. So what if he/she didn't serve in the Army, as I did, he/she served this country and for that I give him/her all the respect they have earned and deserve.

Re: Respect for the Military
I didn't really want to go into details, but these guys were saying things like only crazy people served where I had served for 19 years ("Loonies" was the term one of them used). They also said that people who served there had one of the hardest basic trainings in the world, they had to because the recruits were too "thick" to understand and that the instructers had to beat it into them.
It was REALLY over the top.
I didn't do anything official about this because, although these two clowns are still around, it was an old post and the whole "governing body" of XMarks (owner and MOD Squad) have changed since then. I just hope that they're vigilant now and that this will never happen again.
No more insults. To anyone, for any reason.

Eight years as a SWCC in the US Navy--but that doesn't mean I automatically agree with the reasons politicians deployed us then or now. When I think back to missions where the objectives were muddied, I remember that it always became instantly apparent that despite the political goals, we were actually just fighting for our brothers and sisters in arms.
Yes, I was one of those in combat in Operation 'Just Cause", which we quickly renamed, "Operation Just 'Cuz He can". "He" meaning the President at the time.
My respect to all who have served and are serving. I also fully support good natured cross-service trash talking. Its fun, funny and actually builds comaradarie. But notice I said, "Good natured" :-)

With all respect - this is too old to rake up now. If things were not dealt with at the time it is neither right nor honourable to drag them up now.
I would suggest, BCAC that you, as OP, should ask the mods to close this thread.

Re: Respect for the Military
Chas,
I feel strongly enough about this subject to put out this post just to let everyone (as well as the MOD Squad) know that this has happened before and that they should be vigilant that it does not happen again.
If you found an old post on here bad mouthing the RAF, would you not want to do something about it?
If the owner or the MOD Squad decide that this post is to be shut down because it's "old news", then so be it, but I for one won't be asking for it to be shut down.
I consider it to be a downright scandal and I just hope that it will never happen again.

BCAC,
Point taken. I have not gone back to look at the post you're referring to, but 'bad mouthing' any branch is wrong and deserves an appology. However, re-hashing it doesn't seem to fix it either. I'm sorry for the statements made. I hope we can move on. But more importantly, thank you for your service.

Re: Respect for the Military
Detroitpete,
You're right. I went back to these old posts and found, much to my astonsihment, that we can still report them. I had thought that it was no longer possible.
So I reported these insulting posts and I can therefore ask for this post to be closed by the Mods.

No, I would not. After 6 months a thread is closed and cannot be re-opened or edited - that's how it works here. For you, for me, for everybody. Re-hashing old threads does no good what so ever. Things should be dealt with at the time, not years later.
I have tried to be reasonable about this, but I really think that you are stirring things up for no good reason. We are supposed to take your word for it that terrible things happened. Well sorry, I don't. You are the only one who knows what was said. So provide a link - let us all see how bad it was - or ask for the thread to be closed.
And as for warning the Mods - why do you think they were chosen? For their bumbling incompetence, or maybe because they know how to do the job? What do you think?
Regards
Chas

Chas,
I've asked for this post to be closed.
Hopefully, this will be the end of this.
