    Re: Land Rights in Scotland

This site lists the top 20 land owners in Scotland. It may surprise you that most are not Scottish.

    Chris.
I am not sure when this was published but the Americans, Prof. Ian Macneill is deceased as is Stanton Avery. One was the clan chief of Barra's Macneill clan and the other was an entrepreneur who founded the Avery Dennison label company and owned the Dunbeath Estate (which a quick Internet search revealed has been resold).

And as a side side note, when my mother went to Whittier College she roomed with Martha Avery (now Martha van der Veen), Stanton's sister. They have kept in touch ever since and our families spent a fair amount of time together as I was growing up. Martha is now, like my mother, a frail 90+ y/o but she was a hoot in her day, also a skilled artist in a variety of media. The stained glass flamingo that inspired FlamingoKilts is one of her creations. She had some interesting stories to tell about the span of time that her brother owned Dunbeath (such as the time the Queen, or perhaps it was the Queen Mother, came to visit "his" gardens). While her brother's success helped keep Martha "comfortable," she worked all her life and was a popular art teacher in Pasadena/Sierra Madre CA.

All of which has little or nothing to do with the topic, but Martha is a treasure and I enjoy sharing a little bit of her story!

That is all a bit odd. Are there loitering laws in the UK?

I'm curious, what do you specifically find odd and why?
