I volunteer at an 18th-century plantation in Lancaster, PA, Historic Rock Ford Plantation (had to get that plug in) and coordinate our Revolutionary War encampments, so I need an 18th century wardrobe. Townsend has always had high-quality merchandise, fast shipping and great customer service.

Thanks for the url....neat stuff. I likw that they have patterns. Personaly i like Gentlemans Emporium. More Victorian but very nice clothes. My paycheck hates these finds.

This writer is also a 20 year veteran of the Historical re-enacment community; & IMHO Jas. Towsends & Sons is the "Chevy Vega" of 18th & 19th Century Cloathes merchants. It sorta looks good,espc. if your are not fussy.
It was the problems with ready made cloathes that sent me off into the field of tailoring in the first place.
Yes, reader, check all the sites 1st, see what you want, & what you can afford. The needs of an article of cloathing for "Kilt Use" is not the same as Historical Use, but you do not what to be embarresed by it, either.
Look espc. at "C&D Jarnagin" they carry some good items as well. The Civil War Roundabout coats, sans trims & with Scots buttons are great for kilt wear, the coat stops just at the hips. Roundabout coats are the style worn by kilted Union soldiers during the Civil War just for that reason. The mens fashions of the era were the coat you see A.Lincoln in; it would be useless to wear with a kilt, and look Stupid with a capital X ! If you are talented, you can add pocket flaps and cuffs.
