What's the most "interesting" beer you've ever tasted?

Young's Double Chocolate Stout, definitely.

Don't know about interesting and unusual, but I agree with you; it is delicious!

I'm having a Shiner Holiday Cheer right now...actually my 2nd so far. It's a dark ale with subtle flavors of peaches and pecans. Quite nice. Cheers!

In a fit of foolishness (ie we had been at the pub next to the package store for too many rounds) I bought a bottle of BrewDog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin. I've blocked out how much I spent on it. I poured a few ounces for my birthday last year...and manly made my way through it, but I don't think I've uncorked the bottle since then. <shudder>
I don't mind big beers and I don't mind strange beers, but this was definitely not for me.

I've a bottle of penguin in my cupboard waiting to get opened on Hogmanay, I think its going to be interesting

It's been a while since I've been there, but there's a micro brewery on the North Carolina outer banks called the Weeping Radish. I really enjoyed several of their beers.

Most interesting "bad beer" would have to be Cave Creek Chili Beer. Only the best for those of us that want explosive diarrhea with our hangovers. It was really, really bad... like someone put extremely hot chili peppers in watery light Mexican lager (i.e. corona or Chihuahua beer). I've had a chili ale from other brewers (Rogue, maybe) that was really good... but Cave Creek SUUUCKS.


Most interesting "good beer" would be Duchesse De Bourgogne, a Flemish Ruud (Red) beer, using malt, no fruit, fermented with lambic yeasts, soured with lactic acid, and aged in oak barrels. It was reminiscent of sparkling wine, balsamic vinegar, and tart cherries without being too sweet like a lambic...

For me it would be Bigfoot Barley Wine, made by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. VERY hoppy and VERY malty with a pretty high alcohol content - about 14% if I remember correctly.

Best beer... would have to be "Trois Pistoles" by a company out of Canada.. (yeah those French Canooks make damned fine beer) call Unibrow I believe. It's about 9% when they bottle it and it's bottle fermented if that tells you anything.. wouldn't drink more than one unless your trying to forget something. This beer has more layers of flavor than I have vocabulary to describe. I promise that if you try it you won't forget it.

Funny, last time I had one (more than 10 years ago), I was disapointed. Most of Unibroue's beer tend to taste the same. But close to 20 years ago, they were very popular because they were not a commercial beer, but a microbrewery. they are now a commercial beer. But they did something to the other microbrewery, they got people to start looking for some locally made beer and then internationally made beer. We now have so many microbrewery, we don't know what to drink now...And most of them are far tastier than Unibroue made beers.

Sam Adams Triple Bock.

Nasty when fresh, tasted great when I had a 3-4 year old bottle.

It was 1998, IIRC, and I tasted a '95, a '96, and a '97.
Not sure if they're still brewing SATB.

Edit: Apparently they still brew it, but none available near my zip code!!

When I Googled it, I saw (3) 1997 bottles on eBay for $50!!

Just savoured a brew from Microbrasserie Charlevoix of Quebec - Dominus Vobiscum. Deffinitly interesting, very flavourful, lots o'malt. Be careful; it's 8%.

If you like stouts, try the vache folle's milk stout from the same brewer.
