Re: "Neville" sweater
I saw the pictures last night and found my weary brain unable to express sufficiently coherent admiration, so I went to bed.
Now I am wondering where my snitching book is - that is a notebook containing squared charts for designing - or recording - patterns.
I used to do black and white designs in cashmere - when the good stuff could be obtained as yarn - and they were always eyecatching - but the introduction of grey is good.
I feel a copy coming on.
The gift of such a totally brilliant garment will result - I hope - in some notable reward for the maker?

Re: "Neville" sweater
Thanks for all the compliments everyone!
For those wondering about the "marketability" of such a sweater, I have to say, not as a hand knit! There is on the order of 2500 yards of yarn in this sweater. If she were to charge only 20 cents per yard for her knitting, that would be $500 right there. (Knitters typically charge between 10 and 30 cents per yard for commissioned work, depending on the complexity of the stitch). She also had over 300 ends to weave in, and that price figure does not even begin to address her time for that. So this was definitely a labor of love, and not anything that she will ever undertake for profit.
Anne, if you are interested, I am sure she will share the pattern with you. She's really good about that. Are you on Ravelry? Her user ID there is JMN.

Re: "Neville" sweater
Excuse me, my wife just corrected me. The sweater contains 2732 yards of yarn. :-)

You're a very lucky man, Mr. Newsome. And just as I've always said, you look odd in pants.
None the less, the sweater looks absolutely choice on you, and in general. I don't think that non-knitters could really understand just how involved this project is... it's glorious insanity, if you ask me. I took a good look at the mostly finished article at Stone Mountain, but please give Joanie my very highest compliments on the completion of this work!
Absolutely amazing.

Re: "Neville" sweater
Non-knitters may not understand exactly how it comes together, but like the audience at a magic show, we are all the more impressed by not knowing how the trick is done.
Just WOW.

Re: "Neville" sweater
I was really unimpressed by the ending of the series - I had always expected Neville to eventually be revealed as 'the one' and that he would gradually become more actively involved and more significant in the plot up to that revelation.
I suppose that his destruction of the snake and the acknowledgment of his being a worthy wielder of the sword of Godric Gryfindor was a slight nod towards that - but in the end he does get the best jumper, so there is a little justice.
I am on Ravelry - I will try to make contact there for more technical info on the pattern.
