    Re: full mask sporran?

Yes, it can! Send it to Kate Macpherson in Scotland. All of my full-mask sporrans come from her, and they are simply the best made sporrans of this type.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Are there any legal issues with sending pelts out of the US or into the UK? I would guess there is a 'loophole' for sending it across borders to have work done, with the intent of having it come back to the original owner, but still... the paperwork might be a nightmare. Anybody know what's involved in this?

The only legal issues that I am aware of are concerning the pelts, furs, or skins of animals that are either protected, or endangered. Naturally, I would advise checking with Kate Macpherson prior to any shipping of a particular pelt in order to ensure all details, to include possible legal issues, are addressed. I had no difficulties receiving my badger, pine marten, and mink full-mask sporrans from Kate Macpherson. And, they all averaged around one week to receive them from central Scotland. Kate accepts all kinds of ideas for commissions and I am indeed aware that she has received vintage stoles and pelts from commissioners in the past.

    Re: full mask sporran?

A (very) quick Google search turned up the following from Wiki:

The bobcat is listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES),[55] which means it is not considered threatened with extinction, but that hunting and trading must be closely monitored.
Obviously, more research is needed into the treaty's specifics. But the fact that hunting and trading is closely monitored would probably mean some special paperwork for export/import. It would really suck to have it confiscated.

Quite right, Tobus. It's far better to do one's 'homework' prior to pulling the trigger on any of this - especially with regards to the bobcat. It would suck big time to have such a well-made (expensive) and beautiful sporran confiscated.

    Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. There are legal issues to consider I suppose as the world has changed considerably since 1965! I think ultimately the Bob Cat will become a fine sporran, and you have referred me to craftsmen who are more than up to the task. I will check into the international issues as it might also impact wearing it across borders. I think ivory trimmed pipes pose such an issue. This will be an entertaining project for me for the coming year. Again, thank you! ith:

    Re: full mask sporran?

Here's a link to a company that makes full mask sporrans with a bit more taxidermy than you typically see.

    http://www.clanleatherworks.com/sporrans/masks.asp

I saw someone wearing one of the open mouthed badger sporrans at Salado, and while I never would have thought I'd have cared for something so "over the top", it was pretty awesome...

Check out the bobcat. Is that they type of thing you're after?

This company is based in Virginia, BTW.
