Re: Gearing up for a custom weave... help a brother out!
Tobus,
I just requested Dalgliesh use their standard "reproduction" color range and did not get any more specific than that.
Also, where the sett size is concerned, I can always request that the weavers make whatever adjustment to the thread count is necessary to obtain the desired sett size. It's as simple as saying, "Colquhoun tartan, reproduction colors, with a sett repeat of 7.5" :-)

OK, that helps a lot! With that in mind, what would you specify as the ideal sett size for pleating to the sett on an 8-yard knife pleated kilt?
If I specified reproduction colours on the Colquhoun tartan, would they automatically default to the colours they used on yours? In other words, do all greens get changed to the tan colour on your example? What do they use for a reproduction colour for white?

Anything between 6" and 9" would be fine, in my opinion. 7" to 7.5" seems to be average.
Yup, if you simply asked for reproduction colors, they should use the same colors they used for me. You can take a look at their normal stock reproduction range here, which shows you plenty of examples of white stripes.

Here is their Sinclair Hunting, which should give you a good idea of what your Colqhoun would look like.

Awesome. Thank you once again, Matt, for your expertise.
That Sinclair hunting tartan is almost a dead-ringer for Colquhoun weathered, just with the greens and blues swapped, and double red stripes instead of double black stripes. But you're right, this (and your photos of your Armstrong kilt) gives me an excellent idea what mine would look like, especially with the white lines.
I think I'm all set for knowing what to order!
