Well, I went to the mall on Thanksgiving day, but only to the movies! Other than the usual percentage of people looking at me like I was from another planet, it was pretty uneventful. I did swing by BestBuy on Friday evening to get some printer ink, but after seeing the mass of humanity in the parking lot, I just kept driving!

Your kilt just can't compare to Black Friday pricing.

I don't know whether you're braver to wear the kilt at a mall or braver to go to a mall on Black Friday. You are twice-brave to do both. It seems that you ran the gamut of kilt comments in one day!

Boxing Day is when the action is north of the border.

Dixiecaat, mention Boxing Day in South Africa, and many young folk will wonder what you are talking about. Successive governments have given it a variety of pointless names, and I cannot even recall offhand what it is called today.
While we don’t have a specific day that marks the start of Christmas shopping, it is well under way right now (some businesses start promotions as early as October, and we don’t have a Thanksgiving festival).
I went (kilted) with my wife to do some shopping on Saturday, and while the mall we visited was busy, there was no shopping mania.
    Regards,

Is Boxing Day a big shoppig day now? My understanding was that it was the day to give already-bought presents, not go out to procure them.

In many parts of Canada, it's our answer to "Black Friday" and is now becoming "Boxing Week" - the time to buy all the things that Santa didn't bring you. However, I noticed a huge upsurge in Black Friday sales here in Canada this year. Interesting!

Nah, that's Christmas Day. Boxing Day was a stat holiday in Canada, I think it was officially referred to as the 'day you do nothing' , but now is mostly a big shopping day. Fortunately, we still get to do nothing here in NS as it's designated as a retail closing day here. We get our big shopping day on the 27th.

Retailers are trying to keep the $$$ in Canada by enticing those who cross border shop.
