I don't particularly like the feel of a kilt flapping at the bottom of my knees, nor do I like to wear one too high.
I've always been picky (read as OCD) about the fit of things, seams in the wrong places, things that bind at the neck or armpit, sleeves that pull on the wrist or elbow, Shirts with too much material so they billow out at the waist, Socks with elastic that seems to bite into the leg, stiff zippers on the front of jackets that fold oddly when you move and twist. All of it.
I'm picky (twitchy). It has nothing to do with being a kilt-snob and obsessing about details, it has to do with comfort (or at least avoiding constant irritation).
I am also very picky about fabrics, certain acrylic and several wool knits drive me absolutely batty-itchy. Cheap silk is enough to drive me insane (the feeling of that weird polished finish sets my teeth on edge just like dragging a Popsicle stick across them would).
Does length matter to me, yes. Is it kilt snobbery? No.
On the up-side, (finally) nobody bothers to buy clothes for me as gifts.
Being of MacLachlan lineage, I will probably never find an off-the-rack kilt.
So my kilt is made to the right length (for me).
'tho I can't imagine owning one 3" too long and having to look like this to get the bottom right.
