Confronting the objections of loved ones

First of all, I want to say hello to everyone! I am a new user and have worn the kilt for about 6 months now, but have been interested in them ever since I was in a high school production of "Brigadoon." I've read all the posts and feel at home already! It seems to me that all of you have the support of your spouse and family. That's great! Unfortunately, my lovely wife HATES me in the kilt! The kilt is fine, but not with me in it. Any advice on how I might win her over?

Thanks, Calico Jack! I've scoured that site and read everything that was available there. Tried out some of the suggestions at the kiltmen, but still the wife won't budge.

Just a matter of time I guess. The first thing is what specifically she doesn't like about it. There isn't much you can do til you know that. Is she worried friends might be leary about it? Is she concerned about attention from other females? Does she think it's just too weird where you live? Find out the specifics and then you have a direct point to deal with.
When I started my wife thought, and still thinks, it was kinda off the wall. She gives me looks of amused tollerance mostly but I noticed when we go places she stays very close, letting other women know I'm taken Her position is really that as long as I look somewhat tidy and reasonably clean it's my choice to wear kilts or not.

My wife wants me to wear one all the time .... says she enjoys the looks I get from other women. Maybe your wife wants you NOT to wear one for the same reason.

    Celt, I envy you!

Bubba, my wife and I have been married about 9 yrs (happily!) so she doen't care that the other ladies may look, because she knows who I am going home with! Her main beef is that I look like a "schoolgirl in a skirt", and that she is concerned what other people are going to think. (Being me, I told her I could give a rats a** about what other people think!)I plan on taking her to the highland games this summer here in Chicago to see what other men have to say and think about the kilt. Maybe it's just going to take some time I guess. I'll keep working at it - in my kilt, of couse! Thanks for the support!

Point out to your wife that what you are wearing is a real kilt, not a schoolgirl's skirt. Schoolgirls do not wear real kilts, so how can you look like a schoolgirl?

Must be the accessories! Hmmm. A sgian Duhb in the sock, a proper sporran maybe and a very wide kilt belt with a huge buckle. That should kill off the schoolgirl thing
