Kid's sporran size?

I've searched but can't find what I'm lookign for...

What size is a kid's sporran? I'm planning on making one for my 10yr old to go with the kilt he's getting for Xmas.

Can someone please let me know what sort of size it should be?

I would have said between 5"x5" to 6"x6".

I've not seen sporrans specifically made for "intermediate sized" individuals. There are tiny ones for tots ~3.5" x 4.25" and then adult sized ones.

Why not make him a standard size one he can grow into? Roughly 6"w x 8"h.

If you were going to make one of intermediate size, my best guess would be ~ 5"x 6.75", depending on your son's general stature and build.

I have made a couple of father/son combinations.

Fathers size was 8 inches across and son was 6 inches across.

Vertical size adjustment was similar: 8 inches and 6 inches.

I made the gusset less also, from 2 1/2 inches down to about 1 3/4 inches.

I thought it was a nice proportinal reduction for a child from maybe 6 years to about 10 or 11 years old, depending on body size of course.

It's a difficult question to answer because we don't know the size of your 10 year old. Boys sporrans usually come in small, medium and large and if he's a big boy then he may need a large size which is not significantly smaller than an adult sporran

But there is no standard measurement as such. It's all about proportion. I would suggest you get some cardboard and make a few sporran shapes. See which size looks the best and use that as a template

I gave up on chasing sizes and got my son a standard MOD-like leather sporran from http://onlinemilitaria.com/shopexd.asp?id=1980&bc=no . It was a bit large two months ago, but looks fine now. Funny how that happens when you feed them.

He's not overly tall and quite 'slender'.

I've found the 'Troop7.net' patterns and adapted to fit him using the suggestions above, so now just need to source some suitable leather.

Just found Barkers Leather on evil-bay and dropped a mail to ask how suitable one of their items is.
10 minutes later I had a reply!!! Damn, no 'falling off chair smiley...
