First off, Kyle, allow me to say what a beautiful looking tartan this is.
I can't wait to see you wearing it in kilt form!

I have to agree with Tobus, especially *if* any of the straps will be showing, though my own 2-strap Newsome /Macdonnell of Keppoch (Lochcarron Ancient colours) has black straps, and they really do not detract from the tartan.
I would think too, that you'd have to consider when & where you might be wearing the given kilt/tartan (formal affairs, day wear, etc).
Just for the record, I've worn both 3 & 2-strap, and I prefer 2-strap. It's just a personal preference, that's all.

I'm with you gentlemen on that!

...I really must get an updated photo taken!

Re: Kilt Question for the 'Rabble'
Good gracious all this agonising over kilt straps! Does it really matter? Black, brown, silver, brass? Surely life is too short to worry?

Ah, Jock, isn't it the little stuff, though, like worrying about kilt straps, that gives life meaning? As for me, I just worry that I'll be here tomorrow

That would have been my earnest advice, just for the record... about the colors, not the straps. Would have gone for only two.

Re: Kilt Question for the 'Rabble'
All my kilts have 3 but I am not sure about 3 straps. I have the bottom one 1 hole less than the top one so it is'nt doing much and on a couple of occasions have forgot to fasten it and not noticed. I could live with 2. As to colour, dark brown or black I don't care.

A Beau Brummel I am not. But as far as the kilt straps, if the straps are black, black sporran and shoes. Brown straps, sporran and shoes.
The color of shoes should match the belt or sporran. You don't wear brown shoes with a black tux.

Re: Kilt Question for the 'Rabble'
Cousin,
I am onyl going to comment on the one that i have first hand knowledge of; the macpherson dress, i would go with black and silver and only 2 buckles. for thats what i have on mine and i really like it, i dont think brown would go well with so much white and i like the look and feel of the two buckles rather than 3 and its a bit different than what is normally done so it stands out a bit more.

a pic of my macpherson dress with only 2 buckles

Maybe if we are wearing clothes with the saxon matchy matchy style in mind, but this is kilt world, the Scottish way, where colours don't need to match.
