The largest sizes are perfect for me! They fit well, and don't pinch when I walk, which is nice.
Thanks for the link, Nighthawk! Though I will also add that for men with large calves (over 16" in circumference), we do recommend the Skye hose, which come in the same range of colors:

I may have to try a pair of those!

House of Cheviot, Harris kilt hose - they are fully-fashioned and tend to fit larger-calved men much better than other kilt hose. Trust me, I used to own a pair in claret, and they were much too big for me! I wear the Lewis and Chessboard range now.

Yes, the Harris would also work well. The only difference between the Harris and the Skye is that the Harris have a ribbed leg and the Skye have a ribbed and cabled leg. A subtle difference, but it makes the Skye that much roomier through the calf.

Re: hose resources for "calves of substance"

I hate to resurrect this thread, but I've got an itchin' for some patterned hose, Argyle or Diced, that is also fully-fashioned for the bigleg.

Most of the suggestions thusfar have been for Non-patterned hose. Additionally, there are a few vendors that make hose to order and I've got a strong preference for off-the-rack... for speed mostly, but price is a consideration as well.

So, do any of my fellow biglegs have a resource for patterned hose (fully patterned, not just a patterned cuff) for 20" calves?

If going Argyle, I plan on Ancient Scott hose to go with my Davidson Ancient kilt. If going diced, I would prefer the loden green/navy blue diced.

Redshank was nice enough to let me know before I ordered anything, that their patterned hose is not comfortable on bigger calves... with the exception of the patterned cuff hose.
Have fun and throw far. In that order, too. - o1d_dude

I love my Pipers hose in Lovat Blue and Lovat Green from the College of Piping http://www.college-of-piping.co.uk/a...Kilt_Hose.html they are an excellent fit for my 18 inch calves and great value.

Havent tried House of Cheviot Rannoch or Lewis but I believe they fit larger calves too.

Well done Joshua for continuing the promotion of us GOS.

Re: hose resources for "calves of substance"

    Josh,

If you are considering diced or Argyle I would strongly encourage you to reconsider a made-to-measure pair. Especially if you are concerned about the fit. I know they take a bit longer to get, but in the end, you'll have a pair of hose that was made to fit your legs and feet and that's really worth the extra wait time, in my opinion.

The STM gift shop has their Argyle starting at $140
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/argyle_hose.html

And their diced starting at $110
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/diced_hose.html

There is a $10 surcharge for calf sizes over 16" but still reasonable.

Sound advice Matt, and I completely agree with you. Josh, you wont have anything to worry about if you purchase a bespoke pair of diced or Argyll hose - trust us on this one! You'll have peace of mind every time you go to grab your fully-fashioned, made-to-measure hose, and they'll fit perfectly every single time! Great price through the Scottish Tartans Museum too!

    Best of luck,
