Army class A jacket with kilt

May I suggest you consider THIS jacket, which is German army tropical tan?

Buy two of them and cut one of them down to either an Ike style or to more of an Argyll cut. Thompson's book shows conversion of a similar tunic. Save the second one in case of a disaster or a better styling idea. I recognize this is polyester and won't be quite as nice as actual USGI tropical wool, but I think it might give you something of a compromise between your desire to wear something with a military flair and your need to avoid violating the regs. By all means, change the buttons. Somebody else will have to advise about wearing medals and decorations.

What say ye?

For my nickel, I think khaki is perfect for a summer wedding.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the whole thing has already been discussed with medals, ect. I don't want to wear mini medals on civilian clothes. The only way I personally will wear any medals is on Class A's. Can't mix class A top with kilt as discussed, so the compromise is full Class A uniform for ceremony. Then after that regular civilian clothes with kilt and absolutely nothing military on it for the rest of the day.

Whilst I respect your personal opinion, it should be pointed out that mini medals on mufti is very traditional for Highland rig and quite common in the Commonwealth, especially among service members who wear the kilt.

Well you look pretty good to me , some wear t shirts with Kilt, Your Army jacket looks good as is.It is your History . Otherwise could it convert to PC i wonder. Your lucky as you can always adopt your Fairladys Buchanan Tartan as well as service Tartan

That's not me in the picture. That was someone else who had already been out of the military. I posted the picture as a reference.

The above jacket looks odd to me, because I'm so used to seeing the normal jackets worn in the military with kilts.

In the British Army it's called No2 Dress. Here it is. It's hard to see, but the jacket is cut away in curves to make room for the sporran, and is somewhat shorter than the sort of jacket worn with pants.

The Canadian Army, on the other hand, wears a jacket very similar to our Class A. Here is the Canadian version worn with kilt. It's a bit too long in the body to look good with the kilt in my opinion.

You mention the Ike Jacket, which of course was simply the American copy of the British Battledress jacket. (The Germans copied this British jacket too.)

It looks great with the kilt and was routinely worn with the kilt in the Scottish regiments. Here it is, in the move Tunes of Glory, the postwar version with open lapels like a suit coat (the wartime version had a closed collar)

Thanks for posting the link to Sportsman's Guide...if I was in the market for a jacket I would grab one of the green Polizei jackets. Man...those took me back to a day when my dad was stationed in West Germany and I was running around going nuts!

Sorry for going off topic--I think if you want to customize a uniform item, do it. By doing so, it is no longer a "uniform item" and won't be "governed" by regulations. By the way, has the US Army authorized the kilt? No? So, I don't see why you can't change a uniform item and wear it as you like--of course, this assumes you aren't in the military anymore.

I know that last paragraph might invite a flame--that was not my intent. I just think if someone wants to pay homage to the great things he/she and others did in servce, what is the harm.

This was already discussed several times. I'm still in the army, so I'm not allowed to do it. If I customized the uniform in anyway like that I would have to take half of the military stuff off which would defeat the entire purpose. I emailed about the guy in the original picture. He has been out of the military for years, and doesn't care about military standards or regulations anymore.
