Looks great Harold... What wood are you carving?

Are these assumed arms or granted?

They are assumed arms but I am working on getting approval from my clan's chief to use them in conjunction with clan activities.

The wood is what they call bass wood it is available at most hobby shops or cabinet shops and in they use lime wood in the UK which is very similar.

Yes, it should extend below. Not only will this look aesthetically better, but is the correct style according to Lyon Court. Check out Ian Grant of Edinburgh, or Roddy Young of Inverness - they are superb silversmiths that know a thing or two about making circlets and feathered badges for armigers, chieftains, and chiefs.

    Cheers,

Your work is teriffic Harold. I've never seen this done before either; do you think you can narrate the process as you go along? It would make a great article actually: for instance, your wood is black now it appears; why is that?

    Thanks again

Very NIce , Looks good either way but very good work . You have inspired me to try and make one as well , But my crest is a thistle and it might be difficult but none the less I will try ,due to your insperation.
