Ugh, yes, I remember that discussion. Not pretty.
End result: no, there's nothing "official" about their statement. It was just someone's opinion, and you know what they say about those...

One does not go "Commando" in a kilt, one may go "Regimental". Commando is if one who wears trousers sans undergarments.

I tried searching, but I must of been searching for the wrong title. Found hundreds of threads on people asking personal opinions about what they should do, but not on this particular article. Thanks for giving me the end results of the discussion though. Sounded a little bogus anyway.

So much is said about a private matter like What I choose to wear as clothing is my private personal choice and as long as I don't break any laws should be no concern to anyone else.
Please excuse the spelling errors. My IPhone is "helping" me.

Condemned? I never got my blindfold and cigarrette. Where do I go to lodge a complaint?
I must admit, I find a strange fascination with trying to understand the mindset that is so fascinated with what another person wears (or doesn't) as undergarments. Some religious groups have special undergarments. So? Some people go "commando" under a pair of Levis. So?
I just don't get it, yet I'm strangely drawn by the notion that I can figure what makes them tick. Maybe it's just because I'm intrigued by weird people.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

Re: Going Commando Under A Kilt Has Officially Been Condemned?
Just like the last thread that got so heated, people are missing the point. So a bit of context is required.
The Scottish Tartans Authority represents the industry. All the way from the sheep farmer to the shearer, to the woolworker, to the carder and dyer, to the spinner and the weaver, to the kiltmaker or other clothing producer, to finally the retailer or renter.
It does not represent us, the end user or wearer. We have all sorts of government bodies to look after our interests.
In this case it is looking after the interests of the people who rent kilts and accessories. Too often a kilt would be hired and then returned after the renter had consumed so much alcohol that he lost all bladder and bowel control and ended up being sick all over the aprons. The unsuspecting shopworker would open the box and find what used to be a kilt covered in a variety solid material.
Coupled to this is the fact that so many men, who hire a kilt, do not know how to go to the toilet while wearing a kilt.
Putting all these things together, the STA issued the guidelines to all outlets saying that it was no longer cool for the hirer to be running about regimental.
So, you own a kilt and you can do with it what you will. You rent a kilt and you do the decent thing and wear underwear.
After all, we are all going to hope that the stranger who wore the kilt before us was wearing something.
Regards
Chas
