Re: The pillow that I made :)

Megan do you do counted cross stitch? Cause if you do, you can use Photoshop (if you have it) or GIMP with a plug in (free) to make patterns off of any image file you have.

    (GIMP : http://www.gimp.org/

    Plugins:

    Tapestry 3.0 {The one I use}
    http://registry.gimp.org/node/24964

    Cross-stitchify 2.1 (another decent one)
    http://registry.gimp.org/node/14919

Well, thats just why I wanted to ask you before jumping to conclusions. The shocked face and all the question marks just made it seem like you didnt agree or were confused. Thats all. But all is straightened out now and I'm glad you like my ideas!

Yeah, surprisingly enough, I'm not the only Celtic Muslim. A few good friends of mine also have Celtic heritage and have joined Islam. One of my best friends has heritage from Co. Clare, Ireland and converted last year so we've been sticking close together. We both get the same silly questions "where are you from?" and then when we say "my family is from Ireland" we get the same response. lol. I'd love to work on these home projects, mainly so my children will not forget that just becuase they will be Muslims, that doesnt mean that they cant be proud to be Celtic too. I want them to have things to carry on to their own children so that they dont forget where their roots come from.

Hope that clears it all up And im glad we touched base. Again, I just wanted to make sure before jumping to any bad conclusions.

Well, I hate to bring this into it, but if you are a Christian man, you and I agree on a whole lot more than you think. Christians and Musilms have an almost identical religion, with just a few differences. Id be happy to clear any questions that you may have over a private message if you'd so choose. You've only to ask. I love to educate people on my very misunderstood and misrepresented religion.

Anyway, so as to not get this thread closed by mods, I do want to thank everyone for the encouraging words on my project I really like the pillow and, as it was my first one, I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. I see a few things that I would change for next time but it can only go uphill from here

My mom does. Actually, you just presented an idea to me. I really want to make a tapesty-type wall hanging with a Gaelic blessing on it and a crescent moon and star done in a Celtic knot design. Somewhere along these lines:

    http://www.tattoodonkey.com/pics/c/e...donkey.com.jpg

and perhaps doing it in a cross stitch would be a good idea instead of using a paint like I had originally intended. I would have to sketch that design a thousand times to be sure I didnt ruin it with paint. Celtic knots can be a real pain in the butt.

No more on this forum will I talk about religion or god's .
The rules are ( No Religon ) and I am not going to PM any one about the same. I enjoy this forum way to much to get some one up set and they put me in the cooling off corner.

So just enjoy your crafts and I will encourge you in your art .

It was just an invitation. It will remain open and you can choose to take it or leave it. If you want to leave it, thats fine. All I ask is that before you say you disagree with the entirity of ones religion, perhaps take the time to learn about it.

Alright, Miss Meghan, it's time for serious business here. Let's take your textile adventures and mix them with your love of wax and end up with batik tartan. Dye a piece of fabric some light color, then take melted wax and draw a "tartan" on it. When the wax cools, dye the fabric a second color. Dip the fabric in boiling water to melt the wax, the draw more lines, dye a third color, and so on.
    Why wouldn't it work?

By the way, there's nothing wrong with coloring your candles with crayons. Don't let anyone tell you any different.

That reminds me a little of when we use wax resist in ceramics to build up complicated designs or layers of color.

On the candles: * As paulhenry has pointed out I have the terms (Mishima) and (Sgraffito) backward.

There are techniques we use in ceramics * correction should be (Sgraffito) * where a piece is coated with a colored slip or wet clay then designs are carved into the piece removing the colored clay with the carving. A candle might be dipped in a differently colored wax and the designs carved through the outer coat to reveal the design in the different color of the wax beneath.

The inverse technique * correction, should be (Mishima* is to carve, coat with differently colored slip then when it is dry enough, trim off the outer layer leaving the colored coating in the carved areas , but I don't know if there would be a way to do that in wax.

    * Sorry I got the names backward. and thanks for pointing it out, paulhenry.
