First MUG - UT Kilt Review

The kilt in question is this one on the website:
    http://www.utkilts.c...dern--Kilt.html

There has been some threads here on XMARKS recently regarding UT Kilts so I thought I would post up my experience for those that may be interested. I had originally planned to get the regular "non-deluxe" version, but after discussions with Brice I decided to upgrade to the Deluxe model as there is only a $10difference. There was a small wait as my size was not in stock and given the timeframe with the holidays, etc. the wait was more than reasonable. Brice kept me in the loop and gave me frequent status updates through the whole process.

The day the kilt arrived was a very wet and rainy day here in Western NY and the shipping box was pretty wet by the time I got home and retreived it from my front step. The kilt itself having been wrapped in plastic was perfectly dry and protected. I was very pleased with the weight of the material. It was heavier than I thought, but not too heavy. I would it's comparable to the outter layer of a Carhartt Jacket, though not as thick or stiff. I was finally able to wear the kilt on Dec. 31st and put it on first thing committed to wearing it no matter what the still wet and rainy day brought. The first thing we ended up doing was heading out to the shopping mall. Now I have worn other kilts to this particular mall previously and have never once received a comment. A couple snickers from teenagers maybe, but never a direct comment postive or otherwise. On this day I actually received several positive comments, my favorite from an older lady in a William Sonoma store who simply walked up behind me, put her hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear "I appreciate a man in a kilt". I also got a comment from a 50's age gentleman who gave me a thumbs up and told my wife he wished his wife would let him get a kilt.

Besides walking over the mall for several hours I also spent a good bit of time chopping and stacking firewood in the kilt. I found the kilt to be very comfortable with adequate pockets for my keys, cell phone, wallet, pocket knife, etc.and it fits well enough I didn't need or use a belt.

Here are a couple pictures, sorry for the quality...

I did not use either of the back pockets so I cannot speak to their functionality or size.

So far I am very happy with this kilt and expect I'll be ordering another in the near future. That being said I do wish that there was a length option. I find the stock 23" drop to be a tad long for me and I would have like the option to choose the length. As I understand Brice is actually looking into this so I'm excited for my next one.

OK, you got me. I have to remember that UT here does NOT mean University of Texas. I graduated medical school at UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch) - Galveston. I'd love to see a tartan for that!
