Re: Who has Kerr tartans in stock?
If you're paying over $500 to $550 for a hand sewn wool 8 yard kilt you're dealing with a middleman. Find a quality kiltmaker and deal direct. Many have two payment plans too - half with the order, half when the kilt is done. Lets them buy the fabric from the mill and lets us be able to afford the kilt by saving up for the second payment while we're waiting our turn.

Not necessarily, Ron. I would hate for anyone to be left with the impression that if they are being charged anything over $550 they are paying too much, or worse yet, being misled or ripped off.
Tartan cloth comes at various price points, depending on which mill weaves it, what weight, what range, and whether or not it is a stock tartan or has to be custom woven.
To use an example of a kiltmaker other than myself, Barb T charges $350 for her kiltmaking services, plus the cost of the fabric itself. And if that fabric is a custom weave from D. C. Dalgliesh, heavy weight, then your 8 yard kilt will end up costing over $700, easily.
Now, I charge a little bit less for kiltmaking than Barb does, and I don't use as much fabric in my kilts. But even a 6 yard kilt from me, in the same D. C. Dalgliesh custom weave, would be $595.
Now, one could easily pay less than this if they were having their kilt made in a stock tartan (like Kerr normally is, to bring us back to the original question in this thread). But my point is that there is a range of costs involved in making a kilt, and even if you are dealing directly with the kilt maker, depending on what your requirements are, your kilt could easily end up costing more than the $500 to $550 you mention.
