Not to take anything away from Ryan's excellent bonnets, but we have another member - unaspencer - who knits a fine product as well. She also provides patterns:

Another choice for a bonnet without a tourie is the Irish caubeen. It's what I prefer.

Yes!!! I highly encourage Chris at Dunadd. All my Balmoral bonnets come from him (Robert Mackie bonnets-the best).

    Re: Scottish Bonnets?

you could always make your own as well! i did a few months back (link) and i get lots of compliments on it every time i wear it, mostly because every one else has the standard black/red design. i followed the guidance of Harold Cannon from his thread. pretty easy to do if your even somewhat handy with a needle and thread

The caubeen is my preference as well. J. Byous as a wide variety colors, weights, fabrics, with and without tails, toories etc.

You're not doing anything wrong. Nor, am I. We just didn't inherit those intense eyes and penetrating look from our fathers, like Ryan did.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I think both of you fellows look excelent in your bonnets!

That's the cool thing about bonnets (and I find it especially true of hand knit ones, but then again, I may be biased ) everyone wears theirs in a slightly different way, and it's a very personal item. And even though different folks wear them differently, they tend to look good on most everyone.

How interesting would it be if any given type of bonnet looked the same on everyone's head? ith:
