That's the cool thing about bonnets (and I find it especially true of hand knit ones, but then again, I may be biased ) everyone wears theirs in a slightly different way, and it's a very personal item. And even though different folks wear them differently, they tend to look good on most everyone.
How interesting would it be if any given type of bonnet looked the same on everyone's head? ith:
If blending in was our M.O. we'd just wear ball caps all the time.
The way I see it, we don't wear kilts because we want to look like everyone else, so it seems reasonable that our head gear, and the way we wear it, would be unique to the individual as well.

Re: Scottish Bonnets?
I would recommend that you choose a standard balmoral as you first bonnet, at least until you have been round a while.
Here's an old, green bonnet of mine.

And here's a newer one in navy:

Finally, my oldest and saltiest balmoral

I also have several glengarries that I usually wear because my wife likes them best. Here's one in khaki:

Here's a really nice fawn balmoral I bought from Dunadd. I recommend them for your bonnets. (Unfortunately, some low-life thief stole my new bonnet only a week after I broke it in, badge and all.)

Re: Scottish Bonnets?
Jim, you look especially at-home in a balmoral. You got swag, sir.
EDIT; Man- I missed the small picture, first time around. Glengarrie, too. I look awful in those things!

Re: Scottish Bonnets?
I wear a balmoral. Anything larger looks terribly ridiculous on me, according the my wife.
