There is no hope, it useless

Does this merry-go-round ever stop??? I bought a kilt, belt, buckle and sporran. Now I have everything I need so that I can go out in public wearing my kilt. BUT wait.....I really need a kilt pin to look proper and also a few pairs of kilt hose. Can't wear the same hose all the time. Now the outfit is complete.
But gee wouldn't it be nice to have a formal outfit for those special occasions, and how lucky can you get; a website selling a Prince Charlie set for less than 1/2 price. Can't pass that up, of course that means I have to buy a wing tipped dress shirt. Lucky me I have a bow tie but it would be awfully nice to have a few of those colorful rouche ties also and these shoes I have just don't go with a PC so I guess I better get the Ghillie brogues while I am at it. Now I have all I need.
Except I really like the idea of a kilt jacket for day wear and must get a vest also as I don't want to look the same every time. And I'll need a few more ties for this outfit. And wouldn't this actually look better if I got brown leather instead of the black. All I need is a brown belt, sporran and shoes. And the hose I have don't really go all that well with my new jacket so better get a few more in different styles and colors along with some more flashes and garter ties naturally.
Of course, when I bought my Glengarry cap I got a clan badge for it but it certainly doesn't go with my day wear jacket and so I really need to buy a Balmoral and another cap badge for it. Don't want to have to change the one badge every time I wear a different hat.
Now I have everything except I need a few more kilts, just for variety. Of course, that will mean new kilt pins for each of the new kilts, can't ruin a kilt by taking the pin on and off every time I change to a different kilt.

You are hooked - give up. My addiction has cost me about $6000 over the last two years ROFLOL.

I know this number because I started a list with a running total to look at when I think I need just one more kilt or accessory.

Pants less for all this time (except crawling under the truck - none of the kilts have reached grease monkey stage - yet).

Like AA, there must be a KA somewhere.

P.S. - that number doesn't include the costly impact to my shirts, socks and hose, and shoe collection. Nor on the other equipment I have made or bought to care for a kilt.

Be smart, get what you need but don't go overboard. Try to keep things in perspective...I know that it can get obsessive but try to maintain.

Oh yes, you have it bad!

I've been working on it for over 2 years now, and I'm afraid to tally up what I've spent on building my wardrobe. It is at least what tundramanq has spent, if not more. Not only do I not want to know the actual dollar figure, I don't want my wife to know it either!

Some people feel the need to amass a large volume of kilts. Luckily, I don't have that problem. I'm fine with just a couple of well-made wool kilts to suit the various functions I would wear them to. My problem is accessories.

Right now I'm fixated on tweed jackets. I've bought three of them in the last few months (my latest one just came in today via Royal Mail).

The cool thing about all of this is that you can start off with "the basics" and then work your way up over time, selling off the stuff you don't like any more to upgrade to better stuff. This is the ticket to building a quality wardrobe. As you obtain each piece and wear it a little, you'll find yourself changing your mind, adopting new looks, and wanting to chase better quality. Eventually you'll settle on the few items that you find yourself wearing over and over, and getting rid of the rest.

That's what I keep telling myself, anyway...

auld-argonian - I am hoping the "binge" is over. But going to 100% kilt wearing even casual. Sent over half of my old wardrobe to Goodwill.

tobus - I am single with out a restraining hand to help. Although being on a pension with savings in the stock market and having no desire to exist on beans and Spam helps a lot - LOL

I imagine that a full formal top notch tailored outfit with all the bells and whistles runs the price of a small car - new.

Baby steps > baby steps. It can be a slippery slope, but give yourself time, you don't have to get all that at once! I COMPLETELY agree with you and the rest of the gents here, it's an addiction. I've been on the lookout for some nice tweed kilt jackets of late, as 99% of what I have are of the "standard" sport coat variety, and I've convinced myself that the shorter length jacket is more flattering with the kilt. I've been considering doing this for myself to see if it helps: make a (flexible) master wish list, prioritize needs (and let's face it, "needs" are relative!) and go as slow or as fast as me and my wallet are comfortable with.
