All that I can tell you to this point, is that the kilt arrived in Camp Pendleton and is already on an air-lift to Iraq. The CBS network is following the progress for us (since they really don't have anything else to do).
Naturally, I'll let you know when he gets it.
YOU DO KNOW that this site was instrumental in the decision to go through with the kilt... right?!!!

From Utilikilts email group
Quoted from the Utilikilts email group...
Subject: Kilts in Combat - USA Kilts just raised the bar
Another custom job is going to Iraq. USA Kilts has knocked one out
(although in the old "chocolate chip" camo pattern) and it's already
on the way to 1st Sgt Farr at this writing.
News video at http://kywimg.dayport.com/htm/kyw3pl...tm?Art_ID=9039
(Netscape 6/7 users will need to open IE for this one - sorry.)
Still think he'll like ours best but first we gotta get it to him, so
anyone who hasn't sent in their pledge already needs to get on the stick.
Utilikilts doesn't do "product placements" and from what I gathered from the posts would not do the "Marpat"(?) camo at first but finally agreed to the custom fabric.
I like the "USA Kilts just raised the bar" reference.

The TRULY shameful thing is... this is NOT some publicity stunt or a race between kiltmakers!
Here, everyone was talking about this Marine in Fallujah who wants a kilt. USAKilts is sitting on how much material? Hmmmmm. How about if WE make the kilt for the guy, and remind the public that there's PLENTY that they can do to support the troops other than plopping some ribbons on trees!
Yes, the Utilikilt will be awesome... as their products are. It's just a shame that this turned into some "contest" in the eyes of some. Hopefully the Marine will never hear of it, and just live and love the kilts!

Yes, but I can't help feeling proud that a local PA company had it out the door while they were still bickering. And some of those Utilikilt owning people are so smug.

Amen brother Jimmy. I mentioned the kilt to the ladies in the sewing news group and they were all very pleased by the gesture. All their comments were how much fun the kilts will be for Farr and the men in his outfit. The ones that see it as a contest simply miss the whole point of it.

My Intent
I am the one that actually made the kilt (I'm the owner of USAKilts)... I'm the bald guy in the interview on the link. Just to clarify the intent...
Jimmy saw the story on MSN.com. He showed it to me. A couple of my buddies just got back from serving over there. I am VERY appreciative of everything our servicemen and women are doing and have done for us. If spending 5 hours sewing up a kilt can brighten up the day of 1 marine (not to mention the guys he plays for), it was well worth it. I did not KNOW that Utilikilts was doing 1 until I read it on this messageboard. GREAT! He'll get 2 and be able to wear 1 while the other's in the wash. To me, it's not a competition... it's about the Marine defending freedom.

Rocky,
Welcome to the forum! I appreciate your work for the cause of kiltdom.
I have checked out your sight, and find things to my liking. I tell you it is tough for all of us trying to select new kilts where to go, but at least we have more options.
Again welcome!

Rocky, it was a wonderful thing to do. If he gets several kilts, all the better. Anything that makes life over there a little brighter for our troops is great.
