Re: Windowpane tweed Braemar jacket
Tobus,
if the sleeves really bother you they CAN be shortened from the shoulder seam. A tailor who is skilled in suit building or alterations can do it.
That way you preserve the full panel on the arm AND get the fit you desire.
That said, the sleeves don't appear overly long from the pix. I don't think you'd be committing a major fashion faux-pas if you decide to leave them as is.

He beat me to it...a proper sleeve alteration is done from the shoulder. However, the sleeves look fine to me [if perhaps a bit retro '70's in length] no sweat...I say leave them as is.

The three all are pretty much true to color from what the vendor's site shows, and I also looked up the specific cloth by manufacturer, name and number from a couple other tweed fabric vendors whose pictures were better and confirmatory. The J Higgins I bought sight unseen---just wanted a grey tweed and got a nice grey herringbone, also sourced by Higgins from a UK vendor. I am ready to pull the trigger on another in the above mentioned Cairngorm Heath Evergreen windowpane tweed from the first vendor before their 15% off sale concludes tomorrow. If you want to know the vendor PM me for details.

Those discontinued HoE tweeds seem to turn up occasionally via sporranmaker (and others?) on eBay -- as Cowher and I have each recently discovered -- so do keep your eyes peeled. It's a bit strange that HoE now only offers charcoal Argyle jackets considering how popular the other hues seem to be -- at least in these parts!
Speaking from my own recent experience, there's no substitute for seeing the actual cloth in person. If you ask nicely, however, Rocky seems willing to go the extra mile to help out!
Thanks Tim!

Re: Windowpane tweed Braemar jacket
Kyle I did check out similar tweeds (same style number at least) from Rocky's and from my place side by side on the same monitor (actually three different monitors, as I checked them at work, and at home on both my desktop and laptop), and have come to the conclusion that all of the three tweeds I ordered from my place are comparable in color and hue and brightness to the samples shown on my supplier's website, while comparables from Rocky's site seem to come across moderately darker by comparison, again side to side same tweed. So were I buying from Rocky's site I might not be surprised if my product arrived a couple shades lighter than anticipated, but not really that far off the mark.
Just my opinion.

I absolutely love the jacket and hose combo. Very cool. However we do share one thing in common... The perma scowl . Lol. Although I have recently been able to crack it for a smile in recent pics. Great jacket

Wonderful! Thanks for checking on that for me, Jeff, I really appreciate it. I understand that nothing really compares to ordering swatches of the actual material, but I really don't fuss with swatches - if the colour and design is to my liking, I go with it. If the actual cloth is a bit lighter or a bit darker when the garment arrives, so be it. I am a perfectionist to some degree, but not that perfect!
Thanks again,
Kyle

Ah yes, that's a recurring theme when I post pics. I am rather opinionated on that subject. I prefer to think of it as my rendition of the Scottish "dour" expression.
There's also my disapproving, admonishing glare...

Tobus, the more I see of your newly aquired jacket, the more I like the brown with the blue/green toned kilt. I think your onto a winner with whatever colours/tones you wear the jacket with. As for the scowl, I won't comment.
