Re: Why is it that soldiers are under represented?
Barb, I think I understand warrior's post. Finding an off the rack USMC kilt is not difficult. Not so much for the other services. And there is at least one entire thread here for USMC kilts. I don't recall ever coming across one for any of the other services.
There are posts of fellow service members proudly showing their personal service kilts, but they are a bit few and far between. Bigdad1 makes a valid point. We Marines are not shy about advertising our affiliation and tend to gravitate to each other. Then the party starts.
I personally would like to see a couple of threads dedicated to the other service tartans, and to see the other kilt makers/sellers, make the other service tartans affordable for the casual wearer.
But I don't know if there is the demand. Back to Bigdad. All service members are proud, and rightly so, of their service. Marines however, revel in it.

Great post Santa Kona, but combat Marines and 'grunts' from other branches must tread carefully if they have that sort of mindset in which you quoted. There is nothing entirely wrong with that way of thinking and I support the many great points stated, but men that come back after being in combat have already been effected in a major way by what they have seen and done, and this way of thinking sometimes contributes to PTSD and can make things worse for some Marines, Soldiers, Airman, or Sailors, that saw heavy combat. I agree with the quote, but all I am saying is that for some warriors, this way of thinking can be dangerous - I know all too well.

Well, at least your tartans don't look like your grandmother's table cloth, like the Coast Guard.....

Re: Why is it that soldiers are under represented?
Alexis Malcolm is the go to for U.S. Army tartan kilts and accessories. They don't advertise much so maybe that's the difficulty finding them. They Google up though.
I wear the U.S. Army tartan in honor of my father, who served in North Africa when we were getting our butts kicked by the Afrika Corps. He flew P-39s for the Army Air Corps doing ground support. Shot down at Kassarine. I also wear it for my uncle who fought across France and Germany when we were kicking butt. His company was first in to liberate Dachau.
This is my USA Kilts semi-trad in U.S. Army tartan.
So you can get an Army tartan kilt through any kiltmaker who will get the cloth from Dalgliesh, or you can order one from Alexis Malcolm, or USA Kilts, or SportKilt. A pretty good range of options and prices.
Kilt up!

Re: Why is it that soldiers are under represented?
Just ordered a kilt in my clan tartan. Hoping that Rocky may get another run of the Navy Edzell tartan run in PV.
We had 2 sayings when I was in submarines: 1. "The best Marine is a submarine"
and 2. "The Marines are looking for a few good men? Hey, they already have a few good men...Navy corpsmen."
All kidding aside I am proud to have served and will respectfully listen to a veteran of any branch...even those puddle polywogs from the Coast Guard [just teasing].
