    Re: Tax Refund?

I guess it comes down to priorities. Finally a refund from the US Gov. but I still owe the State. Will have a little left over but no Kilt or kit, just a new lawn mower or maybe a goat. Have to think about which would be the cheaper.

    Re: Tax Refund?

Speaking of taxes, I was wondering how many other XMarkers write off their kilts, kilt jackets, hose, sporrans, and the like?

I declare my piping income and I write off piping-related expenses such as costume, pipes, instrument repairs, instrument maintenance items, and mileage to gigs.

Only good thing about last years adventure with cancer is enough out of pocket to itemize and get a healthy refund....but dang...really should pay down the plastic...really should....but dang...maybe just one kilt....maybe leather?.....dang...should pay down the plastic...really should....but leather kilts are soooo much fun and they smell so good and feel so good.....hearing the song of the "Kilt Siren" in my ears...."buy...buy...buy...."

Or maybe, finally, a wool inverness cape...just in time for summer.....

Ahhh the insanity of it all...

So you are getting a hefty return! Same boat. I need to refill my chainsaw gas can, lawn mower gas can, oh, and pay my state some more money.

    Re: Tax Refund?

Well my wife signed me up for a sewing course and bought me a copy of The Art of Kilt Making for my birthday. If the family accountant(my wife) approves the cost I'm going to make myself a kilt, vest, and jacket out of this fabric http://trimfabric.com/uu-30.html

I write off a fair amount myself. I use a lot of my Celticly inclined purchases for reenactment purposes, which means I promote myself as a leather worker. Business expense!

So to answer the question, I will be using my return to purchase a new canvas tent. I'm thinking a small bellback wedge from Panther Primitives. I also may get a winter kilt from Trinity Kilts. May not, though. I need a new winter jacket worse. My leather duster has seen it's better days- namely the ones 20 years ago when I bought it! It's been a beast. I'm going to surprise my wife with a new skirt and French bodice from Jas Townsend and Sons. My wife works seasonally, so we save 6 months worth of car payments from tax returns to offset the months she isn't working. The rest, I'm going to save so I can take my wee beasties to Yellowstone over the summer. The beasties are the source of most of my return, so I figure it's only fair that I spend some of it on them.
