    Kilted Mecca

Hi chaps, I've been trying to catch up, good grief you've been busy. First thing I find is a chat room, Great, like it, and so many posts that this has to be one of the most active forums out there.
Edinburgh was, as usual, excellent, very cosmopolitan for a country boy like me. Spent most of my time catching up with friends, eating, drinking and arranging when to meet to eat and drink again.
Hank you'll love it when you get there, some time next week isn't it? Go to Maggie Dickson's on the Grassmarket for breakfast, it's one of the best in Edinburgh.
My second eldest lad has been measured for his 1st kilt, a denim as he's not keen on tartan, and my youngest son wore an old, cut down, Geoffrey Taylor kilt all week. I couldn't get him out of it. He loves the full traditional look and wants flashes, sporran, tartan and anything else that goes with it.
The weather has been fantastic, and we've had tea too the sound of pipes every evening.
An excellent week, oh and Hank I can reccomend the city of the dead tour. You ought to tap Al up for info as he gets to Edinburgh more than me and I normally end up being dragged round seedy backstreets by so called friends
    Cheers Rhino

Sounds great Rhino. I had forgotten that you had gone (even though it was in writing!) City of the Dead...is that a ghost tour? Sounds interesting...

I am ready to go! Hopefully I may be overseeing the first pouring of the X Marks the Scot kilt pin!

    Rhino,

Great to have you back and glad you had such a fine
time. If my appetite wasn’t wet enough, hearing
the details of your trip has caused me to need a bib.

I have a question for ya. Which company did you
use for your city of the dead tour? I have found several
companies on the net. We are definitely interested
in taking one but your recommendation would help me
    narrow the search.

    tours of duty and pleasure

The City of the Dead tour is a kind of mix of ghost walk horror story and history lesson. You'll visit various locations including an underground medeival street, the Dead centre of the city where a usurper to the throne was tortured for 3 days (very imaginatively), a grave yard (1 in 50 of the graves when moved had fingernail marks on the inside), and lots more. The bits I've told you won't detract by the way they're just teasers.
The tour folk I went with were Mercat tours, I think it was about £20 for a family ticket 2adults, 2children.
Hope that helps, oh and at the bottom of the Mile there's Dynamic Earth which my kids said was really good (I sent them there to get rid of them for an hour or so ).
There is lots to do, your wife will want to go to Harvey Nick's and Jenners, so when the kids are out and your wife's shopping you're free to roam the loads of kilt shops on the Mile.

    Rhino,

So has your vist to all the kilt shops persuaded you to go tartan yet?

Did you get any good pics of you and your sons in your kilts while you were in Edinburgh?

Before I went I sent an email to Bear to enquire about tartans, I also promised Al my next kilt would be tartan.
I got some photos but the cameras a bit dodgy so we'll have to wait and see.
Ther were a lot of folk in kilts on the street, more so than my last visit, I suppose 'cos the tourist season is here.

    Hi Rhino,

Glad you had a good trip. Must meet up sometime so long as I have notice. Robbie's your man for Edinburgh know how. I believe he gets there a lot on business and the like.

    I'm just a mere tourist!!

    Al
