Re: Grandfather Mountain 2012
Michele and I will be staying at Linville River Log Cabins. We will have a fire pit and a grill. I was thinking of inviting the rabble for a cookout one evening. What say you all?

Looking at the camping registration form, it states campers can start setting up at noon on FRIDAY. Is this right?
Looks like the wife and I will be able to make it this year, and we're planning on doing the camping thing. It's been over 20 years since I've camped, so this will be quite the experience. I'm hoping to bring an air mattress, but have concerns with getting electricity to inflate it. Would a couple of 100' extension cords work?

Re: Grandfather Mountain 2012
For motels in the area, the Pixie is at the foot of the mountain in Linville. If you want fancy, the hotel Esseola Inn has a few rooms $300/night. There are a couple motels in Foscoe, Hidden Valley and Smoketree. Linville Falls has some cabins, motels, houses for rent. A few motels on NC 181 in Pineola round it out. The nearest chain hotels are in Boone & Blowing Rock. If you're going to commute between Blowing Rock and Macrae Meadows, drive the BRP. And for some, there's the BRP campground at Linville Falls. For some new visitors, US 221 between Blowing Rock and Linville can be a problem if you have a large RV or camper. Lots of sharp curves.

Check the dates. That's probably Friday of the week before the games.

Only if you could find a source of electricity then it really doesn't matter how many feet you have, just take the mattress and puimp to it.
But that's why I use an air pump that runs on batteries.

Howdy, fellow Macpherson. JT is the tent convener. He has a lot of kin, so you probably won't get his pass.
You could buy a patron package with the included parking passes.
You could drive from Boone to Linville, and park in one of the Linville shuttle lots. I'm thinking the shuttles to Linville run late on Saturday night, but I never rode any of the shuttles.
