New Puppy!
So, we know we should never go to the pet store on the weekends, because there are always groups there with stray pets for adoption. Unfortunately, we forgot that this past Sunday. I thought I was safe because it was just me and my two daughters, Mom was visiting her Dad in rehab, and we have agreed that we will always make the decision on new pets together. But we saw this little guy, and he was adorable. Check out his ears:
Sent that picture to my wife, but thought I was still safe, she would never agree to a new dog that she had not met, and we already have a 50 pound mixed breed. So the girls and I headed over to visit with grandpa in rehab and pick up my wife, and we were there for a couple of hours, so I thought by the time we got done, the adoption group would have packed up and left. However, the girls all wanted to swing back by the pet store and make sure he was gone. You see where this is going, right? They were STILL there! And so was the cute little guy above. We spent some time with him, and could not take him home Sunday, as we wanted a chance for him and our current dog to meet and make sure they would get along. Well, yesterday afternoon we were finally able to get them together, and they got along fine, so now we have a new member of the household. He was a bit nervous at first, but finally settled in with my younger daughter last night on the couch.
And did fine on his walk this morning:
And now is snuggled in next to my daughter as she does her school work (my girls are both home schooled). Too cute!
Oh, and his name is Chico, very apropos, as he is a Chihuahua mix!

Adorable, but then all puppies are. I, too, have a chihuahua/terrier mix. They are great pups. Thanks for adopting a rescue dog.

Re: New Puppy!
Looks good...your old dog has a wingman now...always a good thing.
We've fallen for that cute thing many times and I often feel that I should just work for a zoo. It's gotten so bad that the last one just showed up on the back porch one night thereby cutting out the middleman of the adoption agency.
The chihuahuas that I knew in my youth were the fragile type but lately I've noticed that there are more buff little guys out there who aren't the little teacup/Xavier Cugat types but are pretty game and rough. Skippy, our walk-on, is a miniature Poodle and seems to think that he's actually a micro-miniature Irish Wolfhound...so watch this guy so he doesn't get you into any fights.
Kids must be ecstatic!

Re: New Puppy!
My wife and I have 2 dogs adopted from shelters. One thing you can bet on is that Chico will never forget that you adopted him. There is an innate sense with dogs of gratitude, and Fergus an Wi-Fi constantly remind us of that. The shelters are not nice places to be a dog so a sense of being part of a family and given lots of attention will do wonders.

Congratulations. I have two rescues dogs. I was watching the dog show the other day and afterwards found myself browsing the pet finder adoption websites.

Re: New Puppy!
this is my chihuahua/Terrier mix Abby. She was 12 lbs. when I adopted her from Animal Control and after a year and half she is now 16 lbs. Maybe it's time for "us" to go on a diet.

Re: New Puppy!
Congratulations on giving that guy a furever home. Later today, I'll be at the local humane society shelter, cleaning up after cats and dogs. It's folks like you that keep me from getting attached to my guests. Otherwise, my house would look like a scene from 'Hoarders'.

Good for you Rob! He's a cutie. Are the girls fighting over who he gets to sleep with?
