How about buying a quality chenille yarn and knitting yourself a bolero style jacket?
Done on slightly smaller than normal needles chenille can look very velvet-like and with long sleeves, perhaps with turned back cuffs, and the edges bound with bias cut fabric, quite narrow but sturdy enough to stabilise it, it could look very smart and not be obviously knitted.
