    Mt St Helens

    Hey all

    Whoah......Mt St Helens!!
I was only 2 when it happened, so I don't remember it very well at all, but I sometimes hear those "where were you when it happened?" stories which are often very interesting to hear.
I was told by my family members that I was taken up somewhere to fill paper dust masks with ash I don't know where since ash was reported to have fallen hundreds of miles away.
Anyways it was evident that it would become an important peice of local history...I think that ash is still in a jar at my grandparent's house.

If you walk to the top of my street on a clear day you can look across the river and see Mt St Helens plain as day.

Blu, it seems Yellowstone is becoming a bit more active. Scientists are saying an eruption is overdue and when it blows it's gonna be a dandy. Yellowstone is one of a handfull of what they call super volcanos.

You are quite correct, Bubba. Another giant eruption in Yellowstone would be the geological equivalent of a meteor impact. It would lay waste to a large portion of the continental U.S., set the world economy in shambles, cause the extinction of some species, and alter the world climate for decades. It really wouldn't matter where on the planet you were... you would still be affected. Not a pretty picture. Might as well wear your kilts more folks... appease the tempermental Vulcan. Well..., I guess that will work just about as well as anything else. :o
