Re: YOUR tartan
The one I wear the most is the one I helped to come up with and financed, The Scottish American Military Tartan. [URL="http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tartanDetails.aspx?ref=10084"]
It is the Black Watch with Red, White and Blue strips. Alexis Malcolm from FLA, designed it and I funded the first roll, which comes out to about 8 kilts. Now it is registered for anybody to wear. It pays tribute to those in the military who have some sort of family connection to Scotland. It is what I am wearing in my avitar.

Re: YOUR tartan
When I was first learning to make kilts, my teacher had some pieces of tartan available for me to buy to use for making a kilt. I chose Robertson Reproduction for my first kilt and also Wallace Green for making a 4.5 yard kilted skirt later. Both were woven by D.C.Dalgliesh.
The Wallace Green has become my favorite. I love the colors and we have Wallace ancestors on my dad's side of the family. We also have Cameron, MacClellan and Craig. My great-great grandmother, Jane Craig, came to Canada from the Midlothian region of Scotland in 1845. My great-great grandfather Green, her husband, came from Ireland.

I'm not sure I understand. Both Cameron of Lochiel (first illustrated in Smith 1850) and the red "Cameron" with the four green bars (invented by the Allen Brothers for their "Vestiarium Scoticum" of 1842) have red backgrounds in "modern colours", red-orange backgrounds in "ancient colours" and claret backgrounds in "muted colours".
BTW "Thistledown" you have a great eye for colour!

Re: YOUR tartan
Bruce...
It's where I most closely identify and I have Kilts in both Bruce Modern (WR1848 - Lochcarron Strome) and Bruce Hunting (WR 1816 DC Dalgliesh 15oz). I regard these as my 'family' tartans although I do wear others, it must be said.
My wife wears Bruce Ancient (WR1821 - Mill unknown) Lindsay (WR704 - Mill unknown) and 'The Australian' (WR611 - Mill unknown). She has no connection to Scotland, or Australia for that matter.
My son wears Black Stewart at the moment but he wants Bruce...

Re: YOUR tartan
My first kilt was a MacDuff since that is the side of the family that is closest to Scotland. My second kilt is a Johnston, for the other side of the family. My third is the Firefighters Memorial, since I am close to that brotherhood and spent a great deal of time with the World Trade Center.
Like children, I love them all equally.
Si Deus, quis contra? Spence and Brown on my mother's side, Johnston from my father, proud member of Clan MacDuff!
