Re: Lebowski?
Being in the same boat as Jock Scot, I too have not seen the film (nor do I wish to, based on everything the way people are describing it), nor am I familiar with the subculture it seems to have generated.
What does the statement below even mean?

The Dude has taken Slacker-ism to an almost Taoist-Buddhist "Things Happen as They Happen" level of either enlightenment or apathy, depending on how you look at it.
It's actually spawned a philosophy called Dudeism.

Re: Lebowski?
I had a woman stop and just about fall down the Post Office steps a couple of months ago. She said; "I thought you were the Big Lebowski."
I asked her who that was, and she said "Jeff Bridges."
Since I grew my hair long, I have had about a dozen people say/think that I am Bridges.
Might want to see if he needs a body double.........................though I don't know if I will like those White Russians.

Like I said before if you like a good comedy, this is a great movie. If comedies aren't your thing then don't. My wife thought it was ridiculously stupid but she doesn't have the same sense of humor as I do but nobodies perfect.

Not all comedies are made equal though. I do enjoy a good comedy, but if it has to rely on toilet humour and profanity to achieve it, it's not my thing.
I enjoy British humour a fair bit... Always been a fan of John Cleese. Also like Stephen Fry (especially with Alan Davies on QI)... Jasper Carrott does some good standup... Oh, and Bill Bailey, Tasmin Greig, and Dylan Moran (who's actually Irish) in Black Books were absolutely hilarious!
