As for the "traditional" guys not liking it.... Dudes, you have a forum entirely devoted to "traditional". Why don't you go post there and leave this alone? We already know that you HATE HATE HATE everything in here, why beat it into the ground yet again? How many times does this have to be said? I don't go into the traditional forum and tell you all that you're stuffy and boring and that I hate your stupid tweed argyll jacket. If you don't like what you see in here then stay OUT.

As a complete aside, I sometimes wear long underwear tights under my kilt, when I'm throwing and it's bluidy cold. I pull up loose-fitting athletic rugby/soccer sox over the tights, and also pull a pair of foam Ace or Rehband knee warmers/supports over it all..

Your aside is actually quite apropos. The blogger in question is wearing tights under his kilt, not pants. He also lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which has a well earned nickname of "Winterpeg." As I write this, it is 1°F/-17°C over there.

The runway stuff with models wearing full pants under their kilts still looks redundant to me

I can, however, understand the desire for an extra layer under one's kilt in the winter. I myself wear "kilt johns" (long johns cut off just above the knee) and have been known to roll my kilt hose up over my knees when walking around for any length of time in the Canadian winter.

Maybe someday I will own a 9 yard, 20oz kilt with 2" thick, hand knit hose. Until then, wearing something under my kilt in the cold is a good idea, though I prefer the traditional profile of a tartan kilt with hose and cleverly hidden kilt johns.

The tights under a kilt look still jars my eye a bit, but I've seen enough of it lately, between Highland athletes and fashionistas alike, that I'm starting to get used to it...

Remember that this is runway fashion. Take a look at ANY runway and tell me that anybody in the world would actually wear what is being modeled. They aren't actually modeling a look, but a concept. Something to gain interest in the designer's line, which on the runway, is always terribly over the top.

I don't like the look.. at all... and I don't care if it is a modern or traditional kilt. But again, it isn't that specific look that the designer is going for.

Personally, I like the show because it is deliberately, or accidentally, showcasing kilts. It at least puts the idea of a kilt into peoples minds. I also dislike the show because it is deliberately, or accidentally, making kilts look like a ridiculous accessory.

Not entirely sure how I feel about it, but if I had to guess, I'd say I'm leaning towards the "offended" side of the fence, only because of the flippancy.

Let’s get a little perspective on this one.
My remark was not aimed at contemporary kilts (so you were not the target, Alan H), but at the ridiculous way the fashion designer and his models were wearing their tartan (or non-tartan) wrappings.
Alan wears tights under his kilt – entirely logical if you are a participant in Highland games.
This guy was wearing something considerably longer, and the garment around his waist was not a kilt – at best it could be called an amateur approximation of a skirt, with a pin that didn’t quite hold anything in place.
These things are not kilts, nor are the guys’ legs properly attired.
Runway fashion? Forget it. It’s not for us, traditional kilts or contemporary.

Personally I am more of a traditionalist however I have absolutely no problem with contemporary kilts.
These fashions do not make me think Scotland or Heritage ir Tradition. One of "fashions" aims is cause change and also to obtain a different look.
Take the "Artificer" hats that showed up at the Royal Wedding. That caused a stir and I suggest that is why they were worn. Fashion clothing is worn to bring attention to ones self. A guy with pants on and a kilt/but not a kilt would make me notice him for sure. If I saw him hiking in the mountains dressed like that I would tend to think he was a pickle short of a full jar. If I saw him at high end evening function, maybe not so bad.
Would I wear a kilt like this? No. Would I criticize someone wearing a kilt like this? No.
Life is all about change and we all adapt.

May I chime in?
I was noticing that the "kilts" in question at pullteeth, with bulky pants underneath, cause the "kilt" to twist in a funny way. That is, the smooth swish was lost. So what is the point in wearing this?

In these fashion shows, the garment is often made on the fly so to speak and pinned together not sewn at all and hence garments often look sloppy.But the under trousers were pulling on the "kilt" contraption it would appear.

But I agree its either trews or kilts not both.

When we were young we had short kilted skirts with shorts attached and these were called "skorts". This garment should be called "the skirted trouser".

I agree that this fashion will never take off and some may even find it actually a mockery of the kilt rather than an homage.

I don't mind the author shots (as CMcG originally mentioned). I like his casual "Wear it like Jeans" look.

I am not a fan of the runway "fashion disasters".

There are already MUGS out in the world, some of which I quite appreciate the look of.

When a fashion house tarts up a MUG and slaps a $2000US price tag ON it, and actual TROUSERS underneath it, I fail to see the point.

MUGS - YES. Whatever these are mean to be - NO, thank you.

I'm not sure were I fit in ,I like the look of a traditional kilt but worn in a more conteperary stile. That said I could never see myself in these outfits it'd be like waring pants under shorts just don't see the point.
