Done this twice. Once with the paper towels I use to cleanup after the doggy - at least they stayed in the pocket and I scraped most of it off with my fingernails once dry.
    ? Vacuum cleaner ?

The second was in the cold dryer with a dozen new bright yellow tennis balls to soften up a black Utilikilt cottonduck Workman after the hang drying ( 15 minutes - use hearing protection - LOL). It came out black with a bright yellow aura. It came out of the kilt in the next wash. And I sent my balls through a wash cycle to get the rest of the loose fuzz off of them.
I think dark colors attract these kind of booboo's.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

The answer to your problem is of course a magic marker and three weeks of 18 hour days. I like the Sharpie marker best. Be sure to tuck the excess fabric under your right leg and pull firmly with your left hand. Strong reading glasses help, or even better, a jeweler's loop. One last tip...Be certain to tuck your tongue into the corner of your lips. It helps to prevent cussing.

I've done that with the laundry, fortunately no kilts invoved, but it took quite some while to get the tissue fabric out of my sweatshirts. Best of luck Anne!

The kilt is drying off now.

    I have a grey kilt.

    Ho hum.

I'm just going to have to accept that it is altered forever. At least the white bits are nice and even.

But I do need another kilt.

I'll just have to get busy and do some sewing.

This has happened often in my house – my wife has usually been the culprit.
A fluff-removing roller usually sorts it out.
Fortunately no kilts have been involved, since I wash those separately.
    Regards,
    Mike

I had a similar idea, but a bit less labor-intensive! RIT dye!

I normally wash my kilts by hand, but after all the babysitting over the last months things were getting ridiculous.

I could have put forward doing our washing as an Olympic event.

So I thought I would save time and use the machine.

    That went well.

Darth Pleater, use the force… and black dye.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
