A bit of both actually, but mostly longer. Another caveat is that I'm pretty small to begin with so for me the difference is amplified.

They are available in four colors: goldcrest, aubergine, heathland marl, and rustic marl.
Those colours aren't up on Cheviot's website yet either: http://www.houseofcheviot.com/our-ca...s/sandringham/

What size did you get? My brother got a pair of Sandringham Goldcrest (a color that I understand is no longer available by the way, but don't take my word on that) in Medium and they fit him very well.
Both he and I have calves that are about 15 - 16 inches in diameter. He orders Medium because he likes the 16" height and I order Large because I prefer the taller (18") hose. Keeps my legs warmer.
Neither of us have any problem with the diameter of the cuff. Hope this clarifies rather than obscures things.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I am 5' 10" tall, size 10.5 US shoe, medium build and I have always ordered a size small in House of Cheviot hose and they fit me perfectly! If I get a size medium or larger, the hose end up being way too long as I prefer to wear my hose a few fingers width below my knee cap.
I sure hope the Goldcrest colour is still available, that is a shade of yellow I must have!
Cheers,

What I really want to know is how long are the garters that come with them! It doesn't say, dammit.

I'm about your size, but I like my hose to reach the bottom of my kneecaps, ... both of 'em, if you know what I mean, that is both hoses, what I'm saying is both my right hose and my left hose reach UP to the bottom of my kneecaps. You know what I mean.
I hope I'm wrong about the Goldcrest color, too.

Wow. I have 14" circumference calves and size 8 feet so I bought the mediums. I'd say that there is definitely a discrepancy in our experiences.

Since size 8 is at the bottom limit of Medium, maybe Small would be a better fit for you. Seems to work for creagdhubh.
Size Large is slightly too big for me, but as I wrote in another post, I like the height. All that wool keeps the calves warm. In the summer I use "regular" wool socks or scrunched-down lighter weight hose (like the HofC Glenmore).
Good luck.

OOhhh. I'm wondering what ruddy shade the Rustic marl is, that is, presumably it's a red-ish colour. I really like the fact that they have a similar appearance to the Cable knit hose one can purchase from Scottish Lion Imports-there you have to buy 3pairs at a shot at 95$ each! I dont want triplicate of the same thing, at least not from them. Once these come on the STM site, if the colour suits, you've got sales Mr. Newsome.

Yes, these are also 3 ply.
