Well, I'm sure the dirt and compost don't much care what you wear... even Highland black tie

You're right that traditional, formal, kilt wear does have a lot of bling. If you go to a non-Scot black tie affair though, or one that is "creative black tie," you can probably get away with something else, without being weird.

Maybe something like this, but with a bow tie? Or even a bolo tie? It would be weird at a THCD ball, but fairly acceptable -- perhaps even more so than a trad version -- at a less traditional event.

I was just reading Walt Whitman's compost poem in, Leaves of Grass, a few hours ago.

Anyway, the thought of wearing the numerous silver buttons and cantles does make me a bit nervous.

[QUOTE=James Hood;1079199][COLOR="Green"][SIZE="4"][FONT="Georgia"]Some time ago, the idea crossed this mind (and demi-persists) for a "festival" of sort...could be local, municipal, private land...

I tried that look once while having one too many MacEwan's ales .

In my kilt with a tie-dyed tshirt , Civil War officer's jacket , Revolutionary war leggings , steampunk eye monacle , Elvis wig , coonskin cap , holding a medieval shield in one hand and a Star Trek phaser in the other with a Sherlock Holmes pipe in my mouth .

After looking in the mirror , I couldn't decide whether it was day wear or evening wear ( judgement impaired ) .

At that point I began to hear White Rabbit played on bagpipes and passed out.
