Kilt shops in Hamilton, ON
Would anyone know where to buy a kilt or accessories in the GTA or Hamilton, ON area? I would like to get my brother a kilt for his birthday in a couple of weeks but since it's his first and a surprise and his bday is mid april, I waited too long to order one online.
Also how do I measure it for him to be sure it will be long enough? He is a tall guy (6'2) and all legs (34 in inseam).
Any advise is appreciated!

I don't know anyone in Hamilton but, in Toronto, I like Cairngorm although I'm sure there are others that are good.
I don't think you are going to be able to surprise your brother with this gift. As such, I think the best thing to do is get him into the shop with you and have them do the measuring. I know Cairngorm makes their kilts in the store (in the basement apparently) so I feel confident recommending them.
If you can get your brother into Barrie I can recommend Burnett's and Struth - I have 3 from them and they are definitely recommended.
Something you could try is to get your brother et al to go out to the Mill Restaurant in Elora for a birthday dinner. That will put you very close to Stratford. You can tell your brother that you want to go for a walk and 'accidently' find your way to R-Kilts. Personally, I would be very happily surprised if someone took me into a shop on my birthday and said "I'm buying you a kilt. Surprise!"
There's just a few thoughts. I would be interested to hear how this finally works out.

You'll have a hard time sneaking the measurements. You have to get his waist - around the navel, the hips and then you have to make him kneel on the floor and measure navel to floor minus one inch. Probably those scanners they use in airports now can get all this information plus what he had for lunch and what he is thinking so if you fly him somewhere and pay off the security person ...
OR - make your surprise a trip, after a couple nice single-malt drams, to a kilt-maker where he can choose his own fabric and get measured proper.

Welcome form an old Hamilton boy! ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Well, there's Scottish Imports on Queenston Rd., but I fear you are too late no matter how you add it up. The ONLY chance you have to get his kilt ready for him in time is if they happen to have the cloth ready and can start sewing right away. You might get him a sporran and put an 'IOU 1 KILT' note within.

Scottish Imports of Hamilton - do a search for their website. In-house kiltmaker, and wait `till you meet her!

I can vouch for both Cairngorm for traditional kilts and R-Kilts for contemporary - I have two kilts from each. Another option is John Hart at Keltoi Gaelic Clothing in Kitchener. I also agree that the birthday present will have to be a promise rather than a delivery.

John, in my opinion, is the best option, but you did ask for Hamilton.

*** for Burnett's and Struth. I have two of their casual kilts and am very pleased with the quality and value.

You could get him one of those towels that is a picture of a kilt and a note saying you will replace it with a real one.
