I don't sew any part of the bow in my Balmorals and have never had a problem with them becoming out of place, or undone and that is with a relatively loose knot - tight knots tend to 'scrunch' the knot too much, thus creating a very unsightly bow.

    Cheers,

Hahaha! Quite right, Scott! This is the first time I have done so.

I tied mine the way you'd tie your shoe, and it came out like this:

You'll have to tell me if it's good or bad! Haven't bothered to stitch it into place. I just give it a tug now and then to keep it tight....

I have always tied mine just the way I do my shoes. Is there another way?

    Thanks,
Not really Kyle, Like others have said the bow to use is the same one with which you tie your shoelace. I would also caution against it being too neat or perfect. Like a self tie bow-tie it is the slight imperfection that makes it look right. I found the stitches could hold the bow in place and could be discretely inserted from behind (inside the headband side).

Don't blame the Marines for your OCD on this bow thing. Sounds like something you should blame on your ancestors. LOL

I actually replaced my ribbons with flat black leather ones... (I had to after the originals suffered some damage and I thought leather would be a nice change)

The stiffness of the material makes tying a neat and flat bow pretty easy.
