We've Heard it Before, but still interesting
The other evening I was going to a college event in another town. I stopped at a convenience store to use the bathroom and to buy something to drink. Two high school girls were going in too, and they were behind me. I heard them giggle, and then one said to the other, "I want a skirt like that man has!"
When I came out of the bathroom they were still at the register counter when I went to pay for my purchase. One of the girls said to me, "Where were you?" I told them I had come from home, if that is what they were asking. The reply was, "Well, I wondered where you were because of how you are dressed. Do you always dress like that?" (It was a black Utilikilt and I didn't want to start explaining tartans and American type kilts so I just left it at what I said.)
I told them I wear a kilt about 2 - 3 times a week and that is what it is called, a kilt, not a skirt. I also mentioned that the Scottish people wear them. The girl then said that she just didn't know and was wondering. Then she asked, "Ohhhhh, are you the ones that wear wooden shoes, too?" I laughed a little and said that no, it was the people from Holland that do that. she once again stated that she just didn't know and they went off on their way, repeating the word "kilt." Maybe they were going to go and research it up when they got home.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

If their attention span lasts that long...

We have a very multicultural city here. I have always had positive experiences out ou girls and women. The ones that make snide remarks are young men and teenage boys. You know the age group. I call them the dumb years! LOL!

I had a similar experience this morning. My family and I went to breakfast after Easter mass, and in the parking lot, I overheard a lady say "No, hone, it's a kilt. I think he looks really handsome." I turned to give her a smile and saw that she was talking to her son. Dad asked me where he could get one...
