In the thread "1 Kilt, 10 Looks" I offered this formal take on an Argyll jacket

If you really don't often attend black tie formal events this is a simple, modern, and easy way to take an Argyll to Black Tie level formality. I used this type of an outfit when I was between Prince Charlie's (I destroyed my first PC style conversion with too much SCD, the vintage wool jacket began to fall apart after a few formal balls). It looked fine among the other PCs and such.

    Cheers

Thanks, Jamie. Very nice. I might opt for the waistcoat versus the belt, but otherwise that looks like the direction I'm heading.

I personally wouldn't wear the dress (tuxedo) shirt with a 5 button waistcoat and the Argyll jacket. I do have a satin lower (PC) cut one I would use instead. If that wasn't an option I would simply wear a normal collared shirt and a regular tie instead of a bow tie.

Basically the kilt belt with fancy waist plate takes the place of a cummerbund and I think that is why it works with the tuxedo shirt.

*** on this, that is a great look when the rest of the crowd is in tuxedos.
