Funeral Attire

It is a nice thing that you wish to pay proper respect to your recently passed friend, and this is the place for good advice. I have never worn THCD to a funeral but from what I understand the custom is to go with day-wear.

Based on what you state you have I would go with your Green Tweed Kilt Jacket, with whichever Kilt you prefer, lovat green or dark green hose, leather sporran (?), and black shoes. I would wear a white shirt with a plain dark tie (I'd personally wear a normal plain black tie to a funeral unless the deceased had previously, or their family expressed a preference to the contrary, but I am a wee bit old fashioned about such things).

I would steer clear of wearing your PC which is for formal evening wear and not appropriate at a funeral.

Ii wouldn't be a problem either way. If the day is warmer leave the waistcoat at home, if cooler weather then wear it, the temperature would be the sole guide to waistcoat appropriateness.

I would go with the tweed jacket and whatever shirt and tie you like with the kilt that you wear. I would not hesitate to wear the MacRae red modern tartan kilt to a funeral, and I would not be afraid of a shirt and tie with a bit of color rather than a solid black tie. Wearing black isn't so much the norm for funerals as it once was, but make your decision based on the customs where you live or where the funeral will take place. You are honoring your friend, so if wear something she would like!

Sorry about your loss, lad. I would say the Muted Macrae, tweed jacket, Lovat green hose, a solid color or white shirt with a tie, your best sporran, sgian dubh, and standard dress shoes.

"black is too funereal" We are talking about a funeral. Call me old fashioned, but funeral attire is supposed to be subdued.

This is my take on it too. I don't even own a black tie and wouldn't wear one to a funeral. To me black is too funereal. The few times I've worn a kilt to a service, I've worn my clan tartan and haven't worried about colour. That's just me in my neck of the woods - YMMV.

I cannot call you old fashioned, Geoff, because that would make me old fashioned as well. I could not imagine me going to a funeral in any other tie but black.

I would wear whatever is comfortable for you in memory of her. Did she have a favorite look?

I too recently had the honor of participating in a funeral for a Scottish born lady. For the viewing, I wore her favorite kilt and her favorite jacket, and helped celebrate her life. For my role as pallbearer, I checked with the family, and wore a dark suit with black tie to match the others in the service.
